02.12.2025 06:14 — 👍 2 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0I agree esp because it's a way of explaining to students the problem of security dilemma.

24.11.2025 01:05 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0That's one option. Another, call it Special Administrative blah-blah-blah (though may no longer be on the table), do a forcible population exchange like what happened in HK before 2019. Either way, u still get bad result for Taiwanese if CCP does to Taiwan what it has done Tibet, Xinjiang, HK, etc.
20.11.2025 03:15 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0rebus sic stantibus-unenforceability of a treaty due to fundamentally changed circumstances. The same applies for old "understandings" like Cairo, Potsdam Treaty and 1952 Japan Peace Treaty. Taiwanese self-determination also not recognized in any of those discussions. Taiwan never has a voice.
16.11.2025 02:36 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0I agree but there was a time that Taiwanese didn't want to hear foreigners complain or criticize policies/practices/habits. Guests should be polite and shut up. Couldn't always have an adult convo abt issues in Taiwan even if you lived there full-time. May still be true.
13.11.2025 03:41 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0My parents lived in tiny homes with multiple siblings. Dad had stability. Mom's parents moved all the time. In early 70s, they bought 2 story house w/ basement built in 30s but it was a mansion to only child compared to their experience. Yet I never look at their time and mine as idyllic.
11.11.2025 05:19 — 👍 4 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0Attended small KY college early 80s. GSLs/family got me through as 1st Gen. Never blamed Reagan. Working class family small VA town rocked by factory fire in 1979. 13% inflation under Carter & Reagan recession didn't help but stint newspaper business said "Get out" of this dying town. I did.
11.11.2025 05:07 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0I was 36 when I bought my first and still our only home. Had a 3 yr old kid and just started a tenure-track position. In 2000, bought it at 1/3 value today. My daughter-son-in-law live w/ us because of prohibitive rent/price to buy home on nurse's/cook's salary.
11.11.2025 04:56 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0I'm surprised that Goldstein jumped on this bandwagon because in the past he wrote abt the danger of not defending Taiwan against invasion. Whether he's been bought or sucking up to the new world order envisioned in DC is beyond me.
25.10.2025 03:05 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0A lot of people already discussed this article which is annoying for blaming Taiwan for alleged "crisis" with CCP. CCP poured millions in defense when there are no threats and created a security dilemma for its neighbors who engage in self-defense but labeled aggressors.

02.10.2025 02:12 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0Unfortunately, that realization did not stick. US had plenty of evidence before 49 many Taiwanese no longer wanted to be part of China but became defeatist, believing CKS could not hold out. By 1960s & 70s, proponents of independence were viewed as annoyances if any thought was given at all.

就在今天,台灣的「解嚴時間」終於超越了「戒嚴時間」。
Heard disappointing news yesterday that DOD killed the Project Global Officer program. Project GO supported US ROTC cadets in learning Arabic, Russian and Mandarin Chinese as well as the culture of places like Taiwan.
