31.07.2025 19:08 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Yesterday I had to drive an hour each way to get a doctor's appointment and instead of bemoaning this wasted time as I normally would, I left early so I could go to a forest preserve near the doctor's office for a walk and I listened to an audiobook in the car. A+ experience, would repeat.

30.07.2025 22:43 โ ๐ 7 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0a book cover for The Lighthouse at the Edge of the World by JR Dawson-- it's a big gorgeous purple-y image of a lighthouse seen through a window, with the title in foil-y looking letters layered over it.
Happy book birthday to @jrdawson.bsky.social and The Lighthouse at the Edge of the World! If you want a book that will give you big feelings (but like, in a good, satisfying way), especially feelings about dogs, and also transport you to magical Chicago (my dream), this is IT. ๐๐๐ช
29.07.2025 20:46 โ ๐ 12 ๐ 3 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 1I think people find that when they reread a work, they notice new things about it that make them appreciate it more deeply. For me that has been true, but I am still not usually motivated to revisit.

Call your reps to join these Senators and push for the State Dept to suspend funding for the GHF and support U.N.- led aid efforts instead.

still obsessed with this cover
28.07.2025 16:13 โ ๐ 14 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Not really! Any time you talk about the creative process like it's serious business, there's that little "don't be pretentious" voice but like. That voice should honestly stfu.
28.07.2025 15:38 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Yeah, and the surprise&delight feeling of encountering something brand new is what I'm chasing most of the time (but I think rereaders often find that feeling in the books they've already read! So, that's fair)
28.07.2025 14:43 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Yes, same! When the choice is "this book you've already read" or "bike 45 minutes to the library," you often choose the book you've already read, ha.

28.07.2025 14:41 โ ๐ 3 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 2 ๐ 0That isn't to say that reading books doesn't remind me why I love writing. That happens all the time. It's just generally something I haven't read before.
28.07.2025 14:32 โ ๐ 7 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 1An audience member at a panel I was on last year asked us "what books do you reread to remember why you love writing" (or similar) and it haunts me. I do not generally reread books. Is that weird? I can't tell.
