I'm the guy who understands Leonard when he says Uh, that is an integrated ion trap and time-of-flight mass spectrometer. Views are my own.

Interpret this however you will, but with Illuminaโ€™s purchase of SomaScan from Standard BioTools and plans to switch platform to standardize on NGS, it behooves anyone to wonder how the data will be bridged or interpreted across the two for future analysis.

This is an interesting one because John Chambers used an 100 sample pilot (including mass spec) and decided Soma offered more in terms of precision, detectability and sensitivity. The opposite finding of many larger studies with validation cohorts which found the opposite.

Last week the Precise Consortium out of Singapore chose SomaScan 11K assay for its population health study of 100K Singapore residents. This is now the third largest proteomics study after UKB PPP (600K) and Geisinger (200K), who both selected Olink.

Not condoning any of this, but do you think he can beat Obama? Iโ€™m afraid heโ€™s just going to get rid of elections altogether.

Just incredible. We simply need more women in these positions of power. I read once a high level exec at Google put in reserved parking spots closer to the building for pregnant women, cuz she was pregnant. Before that happened, of course nobody high up at Google saw the need.

Youโ€™re not wrong but you shouldโ€™ve seen HUPO in Dresden back in October. I think between Thermo and Bruker they prob accounted for 1/3 of the attendees.

#USHUPO in Philly starts with a mission statement that members support funding of science, and call to action of a session discussing the uncertain situation we are in. Truly a sign of the ominous times.

Incredibly dumb?

Incredibly dumb?

Of course, this didnโ€™t prevent one Somalogic executive who decided inexplicably to take a page out of the Guardant Healrh CEO playbook, and public post a โ€œside betโ€ on real human samples with disease and health implications to wager who has bigger hands or crowd sizes.

Perhaps lost in the shuffle of the UKB PPP announcement was Somalogic, together with Illumina will pay to do a 50K sample pilot. The same samples that were done by Olink 2 yrs ago which resulted in the Nature publications October 2023.

Happy Chinese New Year everyone!

I would say the term โ€œChinese New Yearโ€ merely points to the holidayโ€™s origins. Much like we speak โ€œEnglishโ€ but donโ€™t change the term to โ€œAngelo languageโ€. We could just say โ€œhappy new year!โ€, or use the specific term from the language, like in Vietnam, itโ€™s called โ€œTetโ€.

This is very distinct from a pure lunar calendar, which is followed by some in the Arab world, and in that case, their new year is often around June.

As to other Asian cultures who also celebrate the same new year (Vietnam, Korea, Japan, Singapore, etc.), and how do we be more inclusive?

28.01.2025 14:44 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 1    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Chinese New Year has recently been designated UNESCOโ€™s Cultural Heritage of Humanity. The Chinese calendar is not purely lunar, but โ€œlunisolarโ€, meaning it fits the lunar months into a solar calendar. It was created for agricultural reasons to let farmers know when to plant and harvest crops.

Itโ€™s Chinese New Year Eve as we are heading into the year of the snake ๐Ÿ and 4223 on the Chinese calendar. In recently years, there have been many calls to say โ€œLunar New Yearโ€ to be more inclusive, I feel itโ€™s my duty here to dispel that notion and tell you why.
