I also set up a local Oscar server for people to re experience AIM for the IM experience before telegram, signal, and discord took over. The results were a bit unhinged, haha

VCF SoCal is a wrap! Had a great time showcasing edutainment titles from the 90s for people to sit down and play!

This weekend I'll be at VCF SoCal! I'm exhibiting edutainment titles form the 1990s. Come activate some neurons playing Gizmos and Gadgets or Treasure Mountain!

Viewing "normal" this way has been helpful to me - I hope it's helpful to you.

The tl;dr is that normalcy is really an illusion because we are all weird. We maintain the illusion because our individual weirdnesses are frequently incompatible, and to live on proximity with so many other people we need to maintain the social contract.

We all have our own internal peculiarities, and this affects what we consider "normal.". Add to that the human need to conform, and fitting in with society at large feels like wearing clothes that don't fit. Everyone puts on some form of mask to fit in, though it's easier for some than others.

The thing is too, as individuals we have the benefit and the curse of spending a lot of time with ourselves and also being privy to our own internal molologue. Our internal biases tell us that we are a lot less "normal" than some people around us because of how intimately we know ourselves.

Barring the social contract we implicitly agree to in order to live in polite society (wear clothing, use a toilet, dispose of waste in designated places, and try to mind your own business) a lot of stress comes from comparing yourself to other people's or society's "normal".

Someone once told me that "normal" is the average of all deviance. It shifts depending on who and what we surround ourselves with.

I just saw an ad for all dressed chips in the states, touted as a new thing. Are we finally getting elements of civilization down here?

This one caught me off guard today.

What I've found is that overwhelmingly the people who are in "Fries Are Good" camp are people who eat them immediately. Those in the "Fries Are Terrible" camp are those who take them home before eating. In-n-out fries have a shelf life of about 10 minutes, less if bagged.

Since it was reasonably catchy, over time as popularity grew and the adult fandom became more diverse, the name stuck around and became the generic term for "Adult MLP Fan". I'm certainly not happy about the term being gendered, but there is a history of scorn and bullying that led to its adoption.

"Brony" was coined specifically to be gendered -- at the beginning of the adult fandom, men were mocked and ridiculed for liking a show targeted at little girls. Feeling emasculated, a subset of men reacted by creating "Brony" specifically to set themselves apart and build their own safe space.

It's a DOS POS solution -- runs on basically anything, and was initially a pet project by someone who runs a key shop. I'm so glad it's still around and I hope it stays around for many years to come.

Man, I just got jerked back in time this evening. I chanced upon a website for free point of sale software that I used in 2001-2002. I've done similar at times with my browser tab packrat habits. Interesting at times how much the zeitgeist matters, and how it colours the content we consume.

Also, to be clear for everyone reading, while I feel weird about choosing a name, I fully recognize that that's a "me" problem. I bask in the creativity and individuality people express in the community with their names and characters, and love to see self expression.

"Clinton" is the name I was given, and I've never come up with a handle myself I've been happy with. Where I'm from, nicknames were something you got given by people around you for better or for worse, and I never felt like one I gave myself was honest.
