I want: money to pay things off

You want: to be a wolf or coyote

If this interests you Iโ€™m considering offers starting at 1500. Havenโ€™t really worn in years, has basically unused hands and a beautiful tail, fits my big 25โ€ head. I believe it was made my Freakhound years ago.

โ€œAmerica is the wealthiest nation on Earth, but its people are mainly poor, and poor Americans are urged to hate themselves. To quote the American humorist Kin Hubbard, 'It ainโ€™t no disgrace to be poor, but it might as well be.' It is in fact a crime for an American to be poor, even though America is a nation of poor. Every other nation has folk traditions of men who were poor but extremely wise and virtuous, and therefore more estimable than anyone with power and gold. No such tales are told by the American poor. They mock themselves and glorify their betters. The meanest eating or drinking establishment, owned by a man who is himself poor, is very likely to have a sign on its wall asking this cruel question: 'if youโ€™re so smart, why ainโ€™t you rich?' There will also be an American flag no larger than a childโ€™s hand โ€“ glued to a lollipop stick and flying from the cash register.

Americans, like human beings everywhere, believe many things that are obviously untrue. Their most destructive untruth is that it is very easy for any American to make money. They will not acknowledge how in fact hard money is to come by, and, therefore, those who have no money blame and blame and blame themselves. This inward blame has been a treasure for the rich and powerful, who have had to do less for their poor, publicly and privately, than any other ruling class since, say Napoleonic times. Many novelties have come from America. The most startling of these, a thing without precedent, is a mass of undignified poor. They do not love one another because they do not love themselves.โ€

reading slaughterhouse 5 for the first time and i was absolutely knocked senseless by this passage, which is so true and relevant that it feels like it was pulled from a history book

I'm very lucky. The passports were tucked away. They didn't steal anything I can't replace with a phone call and a trivial fee.

25.10.2025 20:55 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 2    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Nothing critical, it's less than a hundred bucks to fully replace everything including the wallet, but it feels terribly violating and will be annoying to reset a bunch of online payment nonsense. Traveling with family so we're not stuck, just canceling a lot of cards that they did try to use (!).

25.10.2025 18:55 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 2    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 2    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

They wasted no time, too - I canceled cards minutes later when I was sitting down, but the two I didn't cancel immediately (work and an alt) immediately got declined transactions due to fraud suspicion for $450 and $4500 within an hour of the theft. Guess that confirms I didn't just misplace it!

25.10.2025 18:15 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 0    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Mostly cards, no cash to speak of. It's annoying more than anything, resetting a whole bunch of online accounts. Frustrating and embarrassing but the actual cost to me is tens of dollars at most.

YW! I was looking down similar holes (*snrk*) when researching Inflatable Code, a geek code @xydexxunicorn.bsky.social wrote in 1998. It even has a decoder now!
