Trump’s Board of Peace Will Help Strong Countries Dominate Weak Ones
In Gaza, it will legitimize Israeli land grabs and ethnic cleansing.
"Despite its name, however, the Board of Peace is not intended to resolve conflict. Rather, it is a form of authoritarian conflict management, subduing war through repressive means." @danaelkurd.bsky.social foreignpolicy.com/2026/01/27/t...

The Burden of Metaphor in Gaza
Beyond a lasting ceasefire, what Gaza needs most is to be understood on its own terms — and for its people to be heard
We journalists are taught: Do the reporting, and the story will write itself. But how does one narrate the stories of 20,000 dead children? Samer Badawi writes in @newlinesmag.bsky.social

What Israeli “Victory” Looks Like
The Trump deal doesn’t destroy Hamas but it does further Palestinian dispossession.
Why is Israel declaring "victory" in Gaza when many of its aims were not met? @peterbeinart.bsky.social writes that the real goal is the same as it has been for decades: maximum land, minimum Palestinians. Trump's ceasefire plan is another step in that direction.

"Even if it does bring about a welcome respite from the suffering in Gaza in the short term, I believe a durable, mutually agreed upon resolution to the decades-long Israeli-Palestinian conflict requires what Trump’s plan sidelines: Palestinian self-determination."

Today's ceasefire withdrawal leaves the IDF in control of a large proportion of Gaza's former urban areas (outlined in white)—all of Rafah; most of Khan Younis; Beit Hanoun; and Gaza City's Shejaiya neighborhood.
Areas where we know nearly all buildings have been demolished are shaded black.

Gaza postwar plan envisions ‘voluntary’ relocation of entire population
President Donald Trump and international partners are discussing plans to build a “Riviera of the Middle East” on the rubble of Gaza. One would establish U.S. control and pay Palestinians to leave.
'A postwar plan for Gaza circulating within the Trump admin, modeled on Trump’s vow to “take over” the enclave, would turn it into a trusteeship administered by the S for at least 10 years while it is transformed into a gleaming tourism resort and high-tech manufacturing and technology hub.'

Let UNRWA Aid Trucks Into Gaza
The region’s most experienced aid agency could feed all of Gaza’s population for three months—if Israel would just let them do their job.
"At this very moment, UNRWA alone has 6,000 trucks waiting just beyond the border with enough food to provide for the entire population of Gaza for three months."
"No evidence has been provided to substantiate any of Israel’s countless...weaponized allegations against UNRWA"

This Is How You Conduct Genocide by the Regulations
The bureaucracy Israel implemented decades ago to control the population of Gaza has been weaponized to regulate and facilitate its destruction
NEW: Human rights lawyer @saribashi.bsky.social spent years litigating against Israeli military restrictions on access to Gaza. She didn't anticipate how quickly this bureaucracy would facilitate the destruction of its people, she writes for @newlinesmag.bsky.social

Gaza has reached IPC Phase 5, which is the worst level of food insecurity & is associated with high amounts of death & permanent disability. For people experiencing this level of malnutrition, even if it ended today, many of the consequences (eg personal outcomes like disabilities) are irreversible.

Opinion | I’m a Genocide Scholar. I Know It When I See It.
A scholar of genocide comes to a painful conclusion about Israel’s actions in Gaza.
“My inescapable conclusion has become that Israel is committing genocide against the Palestinian people,” writes Omer Bartov, a professor of Holocaust and genocide studies at Brown University. “I have been teaching classes on genocide for a quarter of a century. I can recognize one when I see one.”
