Transferable approaches to CRISPR-Cas9 induced genome editing in non-model insects: a brief guide - Frontiers in Zoology Despite the large variety of insect species with divergent morphological, developmental and physiological features questions on gene function could for a long time only be addressed in few model speci...

Our review on CRISPR-Cas9 based techniques is now out in BMC Frontiers in Zoology. Have a look if you are interested in applying genome editing in insects or other organisms!

Differences in size and number of embryonic type II neuroblast lineages correlate with divergent timing of central complex development between beetle and fly Genetic labeling and molecular analyses characterize the dynamics of embryonic central complex-forming type II neuroblast lineages in Tribolium castaneum.

Our paper on type II neuroblasts in beetle brain development is finally out! Many thanks to @elife.bsky.social for the supportive review and publication process.

Women are credited less in science than men - Nature The difference between the number of men and women listed as authors on scientific papers and inventors on patents is at least partly attributable to unacknowledged contributions by women scientists.

On #InternationalDayofWomenandGirlsinScience let me remind you that we are NOWHERE NEAR parity. A few examples.

1. Women are credited less in science than men.

Women are under-represented at senior levels in #academia globally, & across all #science 🧪 disciplines, as shown by these "scissor-shaped curves" ✂️

So how can we ever achieve #gender #equality?

We discuss various strategies in this #Cell Commentary

Women authors in the first 50 years of DGE-contributions and research topics

Look at this interesting read on the contribution of woman authors to the new field of Developmental Mechanics (i.e. Developmental Biology) based on contributions to the first 50 yrs (1894-1944) of the journal Roux's Archives/ now Development Genes and Evolution.
