06.07.2025 13:19 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Image under bridge over Lake Benalla, couldnβt resist taking pic after walking around the lake, as break in return trip from Melbourne to Sydney. Recommend Benalla as a stop, sadly too late for art gallery.
Catacombs (just kidding!), underneath bridge over Lake Benalla

Just drove from Sydney to Melbourne and as usual obsessed with the odometer (an integral calculus machine!), excited that it was about to show 123456, but got distracted in thoughts and went well past that special number before I checked again! Blinked and missed an important life event!

Not so subtle dig!
Whatever the percentage turns out to be, should be policy priority to work on student accommodation and make these students welcome. They make a wonderful contribution to our society in so many different ways and are part of a constructive and valuable investment in future international relations
07.04.2025 03:50 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Yes it is shocking and sickening and the condemnation should be immediate and universal
07.04.2025 02:29 β π 5 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0German wordle in three tries and only green squares, lucky for me!
06.04.2025 22:18 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Yes, I think it is a mistake to identify overseas students with general immigration, and any housing pressures should be resolved by targeted policy on student accommodation. Then everyone benefits (including local students, who are enriched by interactions with students from overseas).
06.04.2025 10:41 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Agreed, work in the tertiary sector, most of my students are from overseas, wonderful work ethic and enrich the learning experience for everyone. Tough for them even though housing needs are minimal. Targeted policy creating more student accommodation would remove negative effects on general housing
06.04.2025 10:06 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0German wordle. Managed in four tries. Todayβs word is apt for the current crisis and is the same in English.
05.04.2025 22:54 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Plausible explanation where Trump's infantile tariff policy had its genesis. (There are other theories also going back 40 years or so, reinforcing Trump's basic mental block.) Rachel Maddow gives cause for hope: "The American people get it. They are awake. They are not giving up".
05.04.2025 22:29 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0German wordle. Managed with three tries. The word captures how I feel at the moment about the US, one of my otherwise favourite places to visit
Appropriate word for how one feels about US now
04.04.2025 21:33 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Nothing Trump says can be relied upon, ever. He is an infantile idiot, with criminal instincts and whims and fixations that have nothing to do with reality. The US has to be quarantined until the Trump sickness has passed.
04.04.2025 21:12 β π 5 π 1 π¬ 0 π 0Yes, speech was painful to watch, infantile rubbish, together with a show and tell chart that would make an economics school teacher blush, rows of senior people soaking it up in the most egregious display of sycophancy. Australia must insulate itself until the Trump phase has passed. It will pass!
04.04.2025 04:14 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0German wordle, managed in three tries, unusual for me!
03.04.2025 21:17 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Yes, fine article. There is an upside if the rest of the world can quarantine the US until the Trump malaise/sickness has passed. Tariffs are actually not the greatest danger. Also the tide might be turning with the imminent demise of Musk and recent antics in Wisconsin and some rebels in the Senate
03.04.2025 07:54 β π 6 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0German wordle. Took six tries and had to eliminate about five possibilities on the fifth turn. Unusual also in only green squares appear, first time for me.
Phew!
02.04.2025 21:06 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0"The tide is turning"

02.04.2025 11:19 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Informative and thought provoking narrative and excellent montage of historical footage, thank you
02.04.2025 11:16 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0The pendulum is starting to turn at last!
02.04.2025 04:57 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Turnbull's speech was strong, though I did not like that he said that we need to be more like Trump, the usual reference to being "transactional". Transactional implies seeking mutual benefits based on respect and integrity. Nothing like Trump! Standing up to a bully doesn't mean being a bully.
01.04.2025 21:43 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0German wordle. Rare for me to solve in three goes!
01.04.2025 21:24 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Very good question and their obfuscation is shameful!
31.03.2025 21:53 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0German wordle. Not so difficult today but still a lot of possibilities after second turn and it fell out on fifth turn.
31.03.2025 21:47 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Maybe at last the pendulum is beginning to turn
