If you live in California and happen to see Spartan Mosquito Pro Techs for sale, please send me a photograph and the address of the store. The scam tubes are banned there and company gets fined up to $10,000 *per* instance. I'd very much like to facilitate that happening. #california #mosquitoes

A black and white photograph showing two women in outdoor coats and hats (Lisette Phillips, secretary at St Bartholomew's Hospital and her friend Venetia) standing by the fountain in the hospital square. In the background are hospital buildings - in front of one building is a row of wooden structures shaped like square based pyramids with the top chopped off. Slits are visible at the top of the slatted walls of the structures (SBHPP/ETP/1)

As the world has looked back on VE day this week, we have had a question about St Bartholomew's Hospital in the Second World War, which we can't answer. Can you help?!
This photo was taken in the hospital square in the 1940s; what was the purpose of the temporary wooden structures in the background?

This weekend is Imbolc; halfway between winter and spring. Today in NH there will be 10 hours of light between sunrise and sunset. It's also Groundhog Day, and whether or not Phil saw his shadow (he did) it's still 10 to 12 weeks minimum until spring weather arrives. Hope is lighting the darkness.

Bookshop.org launches new e-book platform that exclusively supports local bookstores Indie bookstores miss out on millions of e-book sales to big companies like Amazon. Bookshop.org's new platform could help them turn a new page.

This. Is. Amazing. Finally, an ebook alternative for Amazon, but for independent bookstores. This is amazing for readers who want to be more intentional about where you're spending your money. ๐Ÿ“– #BookSky

Yes, libraries are invaluable for their collections and public services they offer, but also social contact without the expectation to interact with anyone or spend any money is so important to so many people

A British pensioner whose bland sandwiches gained him unexpected fame in China has died. Keith Brown, a retired engineer known on Chinese social media as
"Old Dry Keith", became a hit when his Chinese wife Zhang Jian began to post videos of him assembling the ham and cheese sandwiches he liked to eat. Chinese observers were grimly fascinated by his dry, boring sandwiches, and his gentle, stoic manner - and he built up a cult following. "We go from questioning the dry old man, to understanding the dry old man, to becoming the dry old man," observed one cultural commentator.

Please, if you are able, support Independent bookshops.

They are the literary & social hubs of our high streets and communities.

Without their continued support, we simply wouldn't be around to publish .

Thank you.
