The amendment fits into one post -
"For the purposes of the law related to abortion, including s58 and s59 of the Offences Against the Person Act 1861, and the Infant Life (Preservation) Act 1929, no offence is committed by a woman acting in relation to her own pregnancy."

The law, when it comes into force, will bring England and Wales into line with Northern Ireland and Scotland, as well as France, Ireland, NZ, Australia, Canada, and even the USA - in saying that the appropriate place for abortion law enforcement is not with a vulnerable, desperate woman.

Itβs absolutely shameful and shocking to see high profile women calling themselves feminists, writing screeds about how women who have late term abortions will βkill babiesβ and that decriminalisation βdenies the interests of the babyβ.
Calling decriminalisation a βlib femβ issue ffs.

It's time to act
No woman should be arrested for ending her own pregnancy. Together, we can stop it. Help us this June.
@tonia-antoniazzi.bsky.social is writing to @london.gov.uk to find out what on earth is going on. But what we really need is the law changed so these decisions aren't up to the police.

Some days you get a letter you have to read twice to fully believe. The letter from TfL saying our ads had been turned down because they might hurt the police's feelings was one of those. π¨ Our abortion law hurts a lot more than feelings - that's why we're fighting to change it.

βI was right to be frightenedβ: Nicola Packer on the humiliation and trauma of her trial for illegal abortion
Acquitted woman wants to ensure thereβ is never again an abortion trial in Englandβ β
Nikki Packer is a brave and brilliant woman who has been through absolute hell.
This is her story; itβs not one she ever wanted to be telling, but she hopes that by doing so, no other woman will have to go through what she did:

Honestly I feel like such an idiot - but in the moment I just couldn't get my head straight or the words out. I've done press on this for 7 years, never happened before - typical it happened live and just really hope it never happens again π. Props to the team at #r4today who were super supportive.

For 6 years the police and CPS have pursued this woman alleging she ended her own pregnancy.
Now we know there was no evidence she did anything other than panic when she found out she was pregnant, ordered pills she never took, then had a traumatic stillbirth at home.
The law needs to change.

The weather cleared up for a brief and glorious stretch in western Lewis today. This is from the B8011 outside Enaclete looking down towards the Harris hills in the distance. Lasted all of about 20 mins - the joys of December.

Nice to see you! I decided so many people I valued had left it was probably time to take the plunge. Now I can waste twice as much time! Result.

Hello there. First day on BlueSky - I'm over on the same handle on X. You will mainly get pro-choice and UK politics content, with a heavy sprinkling of photos from Scotland. Starting you off gently, here's a sunset across the Lewis moors (that I got from a layby by a pizza van). π
