I've been enjoying this thread and I love a lot about what you've been posting, but I just wanted to call out specifically that I love how the edg bevelling on the blocks both looks really cool and helps visual readability of caves and overhangs. Really looking forward to playing this some day!

I know it might end up feeling like wasted work but my gut feeling on this is to make the game you want to make, and THEN make concessions later if you have to, don't compromise it from the beginning. (It's also way easier for me to say this to someone else than to convince myself...)

This one has been a long time coming, obviously, and for silly reasons, but so it goes. Thankfully, I haven't been idle the whole time, I've still been working away at Five Words of Power. It's slow, but it's progress at least!

Adding #sauce to my #GBStudio game every day- Days 24-25

Changed the melee attack to a slash, which is what I wanted it to be originally. I had to add directional sprites to projectiles first, which was a little tricky.

Also expanded the UI so you can have more health and ammo.

It's always interesting to see how things land differently for people! Technically I used Unity before Godot but I've used Godot way more at this point, and it's weird to me that Unity draws a strong distinction between scenes and prefabs -- why treat them differently?

That sounds about right for 3d camera implementation, haha. It looks great, or at least... reasonable... and then you try to rotate and discover you need to redo the math from scratch AND stock up on anti-nausea meds ๐Ÿ˜…

Particularly confusing because it turns out that opaque black can turn into fully-transparent red, so if you're unlucky with your tests it can look like it's not doing anything at all!

Yeah! Both make total sense, it's just one of those things where sensible internals lead to a surprising interaction. I was a bit confused so I figured if I spent the time working it out may as well throw it out there in case it trips anyone else up. :)

If you want to build up a pixel array in a PackedInt32Array and then make an Image out of it, set the pixel data with Color.to_abgr32(), rather than Color.to_rgba32(); this will mean your byte array ends up with the bytes in the order Image.FORMAT_RGBA8 expects.

Unintuitive #godotengine note of the day: Image.to_rgba32() returns an int32 with the R component in the high order byte, while PackedInt32Array.to_byte_array(), encodes your int32s to bytes in a little-endian way (i.e. low order byte first).
