Originality is the confluence of content and form- distinctive choices of subject plus a unique shaping of the telling. Content and form require, inspire, and mutually influence one another.โ

Itโs our lack of ability to pay attention and the rise of passive viewing that are causing creators, dare I say artists, to reiterate and repeat their symbols.
โThe things we care about are the things we make art about. We frame them with our attention. Art is proof of care.โ p82

Documentarians have always had decisions in the direction of the camera and what to cut or include.
Right or wrong the growth of the documentary is fueled by the usage of modern film techniques while engaging with real subjects. The form has evolved from observation to elegant essays and prose evoking emotional truth vs observational reality. (Directors: D Gelb, M Heineman, B Fogel, etc)

AND do the tik tok and reels consuming audience have the patience to let the story play out?
