Owls are very sensitive to stress, but everyone always wants to cuddle one (because ‘cute’) Note the obvious stress caused by the presence of dogs to the Brown Wood Owl.

Most people won’t be aware of these welfare issues, so sharing my two cents as a former falconer and aviculturalist.

Mobile zoos Animals used in mobile displays are forced to endure stressful and unnatural environments.

Mobile ‘zoos’ like this often claim they are raising money for animal welfare/wildlife conservation. But the reality is that these birds are being used as entertainment, for money.

Please think twice about encouraging this kind of thing if you see it.

Birds of prey do not like to be handled by strangers.
They do not like to be stroked, and this is actually bad for their feathers.
Owls should not be tethered.
Note the obvious stress caused by the presence of dogs.

Great recovery! Orphaned Herring Gull 24N:C from Cork City was taken in by Wildlife Rescue Cork and released on 20th August. On 27th Nov it was seen on San Lorenzo beach in Gijon, Spain. Just the 7th Irish Herring Gull to be seen in Spain! 🪶 @btobirds.bsky.social @npwsireland.bsky.social

Farne Islands puffin and Arctic tern count 'mixed picture' The number of puffin breeding pairs on the Farne Islands in Northumberland drops by 23% in a year.

New National Trust seabird census from the Farne Islands shows a mixed picture:

Humans killed millions of vultures. Now people are paying the price. The near-extinction of vultures in India has had severe consequences.
