Not even that. When generators are desperate for gas, Methanex sells them it's very cheap gas for very high prices. Methanex will never pay LNG prices for its own use.

All the benefits of technology were meant to allow us to work less, that was the promise, but capitalism turned that into doing more to make money for fewer and fewer people at the top.

We could be housing homeless people, providing healthcare, funding our schools, protecting our environment… no let’s make more concentration camps for brown people.

We reackon the Govts lack of imagination is thanks to fossil fuel lobbyists like Energy Resources Aotearoa, who are doing everything they can to lock expensive gas into the system for decades to come. Today's decision was timed in order for Ministers to attend the annual fossil fuel lobbyist brekky!

The last govt in Aotearoa New Zealand had an industry strategy with co-developed, high value, low emissions sector plans.
