30 years ago, FL agreed to follow its established policy to not make decisions about what services to provide to foster children and families based on immigration status. Imagine how devastating the implications of such a policy reversal would be to our neighbors.

Kudos to the Miami Herald’s veteran investigative journalist, Carol Marbin, for informing/reminding readers that DCF/HRS entered into a Consent Decree in Federal District Court in 1995 to settle a Class Action lawsuit regarding its treatment of Haitian refugees.

Florida authorities called ICE on a teenager in foster care in violation of the Undocumented Child Rule, which prohibits Department of Children and Families workers from acting on a child’s immigration status. Whoever called should NOT work with children at DCF! FIRED! QUIT! LEAVE!

Florida child welfare officers found a 17-year-old living in a shed with no food or water. They sent him to a foster home... and then reported him to ICE, whereupon he was handcuffed and shackled and marched to detention.

Not only is that victimizing him again, it violates Florida's own rules.

The Honduran teen was removed from his Pensacola foster home Monday morning — in handcuffs and shackles – and transferred immediately into ICE custody. The boy and his mother had crossed the southwest border into the U.S. without permission, sources familiar with the case told the Miami Herald. After being separated from his mother, who was later deported, the boy traveled from Texas to Pensacola, where he sought work. He entered foster care after he was found living in a shed with no source of food, shelter or income, records show.
