30 years ago, FL agreed to follow its established policy to not make decisions about what services to provide to foster children and families based on immigration status. Imagine how devastating the implications of such a policy reversal would be to our neighbors.

Kudos to the Miami Herald’s veteran investigative journalist, Carol Marbin, for informing/reminding readers that DCF/HRS entered into a Consent Decree in Federal District Court in 1995 to settle a Class Action lawsuit regarding its treatment of Haitian refugees.

Reports about undocumented families are already low. This shift makes the chance for reporting, and, therefore, rescuing kids, less likely.”

β€œIf DCF’s public policy changes from refugee care and resettlement…to deportation, our vulnerable migrant communities across the state will no longer look to

Fran Allegra, a children’s attorney who ran Miami-Dade’s private foster care agency from 2004 until 2014, said if DCF’s action in Henry’s case represents a formal change in policy, it β€œputs Florida children at risk, and introduces a new chilling effect on reports to the [state’s] child abuse hotline

Florida child welfare agency calls ICE on teen migrant in foster care, sparking criticism β€˜If this is a policy decision, it is a huge deal.’

Florida authorities called ICE on a teenager in foster care in violation of the Undocumented Child Rule, which prohibits Department of Children and Families workers from acting on a child’s immigration status. Whoever called should NOT work with children at DCF! FIRED! QUIT! LEAVE!

Florida child welfare officers found a 17-year-old living in a shed with no food or water. They sent him to a foster home... and then reported him to ICE, whereupon he was handcuffed and shackled and marched to detention.

Not only is that victimizing him again, it violates Florida's own rules.

Florida child welfare authorities turned over a 17-year-old foster child to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents, sparking intense criticism that the action could hinder efforts to protect children in the state’s large immigrant communities. The Honduran teen was removed from his Pensacola foster home Monday morning β€” in handcuffs and shackles – and transferred immediately into ICE custody. The boy and his mother had crossed the southwest border into the U.S. without permission, sources familiar with the case told the Miami Herald. After being separated from his mother, who was later deported, the boy traveled from Texas to Pensacola, where he sought work. He entered foster care after he was found living in a shed with no source of food, shelter or income, records show. The boy, whose first name is Henry, also may have been a victim of labor trafficking. The Herald is not fully naming him to protect his privacy.

Florida welfare authorities have turned over a 17-year-old foster child to ICE.

He has already been separated from his mother, who was deported.

He may have been the victim of labor trafficking.

Yet, he was taken from his foster home in shackles.

A minor.

If it was anything but a Trump DOJ, Ron DeSantis & James Uthmeier would be quietly shopping for defense attorneys & grand jury subpoenas would be hitting the desks of numerous DeSantis administration heads.

Trump holds the lives of Ron & James in his tiny little palm. And you can bet he knows it.

$9 billion a year for NSF is absolute chump change. It's nothing. And yet, cutting it will devastate American science for decades.

God, we're led by a morons, empowered by idiots.

South Florida man picks up thousands of pounds of trash to help keep parks clean Over the last eight years, Andrews Otazo has picked up more than 30,000 pounds of trash, all on his own.

Andrew Otazo estimates that he’s single-handedly picked up 30,000 pieces of trash from Miami’s mangroves: β€œThe only way that this is ever going to change is if we stop the trash, this trash flow at its source."

Now, Cuban American businessman and political donor Mike Fernandez is doing the same.

No one is buying into their lies about trying to β€œprotect” our communities.
