I talked to a neighbor who has been on the block for 52 years and she said there used to be a apartment building on the lot in question

she had no idea there was a meeting recently and suggested that we flyer because while there's been changes, the sentiment she conveyed is more housing is better

directly next to the property is a 6 flat of apartments, across the street is a building with 4 units, another 20 units on the half block over

Hanette got no heads up about the meeting or the development at Washtenaw, the gym would like people

RESPONSE: Documents responsive to your request are available to download via the CPS FOIA Center at www.cps.edu/FOIARequests. Please log in with your username and password to access the records.

The Chicago Public Schools (CPS) FOIA Department has conducted an e-discovery search with the parameters you set forth, searching the referenced email address β€œMSBeyer@cps.edu” with a keyword of β€œrwells7373@gmail.com” and β€œsingle story”, with a timeframe of May 20, 2018, and filtering the emails that were β€œsent from Rebecca Wells”, as requested in your narrowed request.

it was obscene that one parent would have that much interaction with a principal in a less than 2 month timeframe so we worked to undo social control and punishment, it really interrupted the order of things

it was productive to use research to unbuild gates and walls and we learned about CPS IT

RESPONSE: The Chicago Public Schools (CPS) FOIA Department has conducted an e-discovery search with the parameters you set forth, searching the referenced email address β€œMSBeyer@cps.edu” with a keyword of β€œrwells7373@gmail.com”, within a timeframe of May 1, 2018 through June 30, 2018. This search yielded 945 search results, totaling at least 3,675 pages.

As written, it has been determined that your request is unduly burdensome to the District pursuant to 5 ILCS 140/3(g). In order to comply with this request, the CPS would, at a minimum, have to review each and every of the 3,675 or more pages, each of which may include student information, sender and recipient email addresses, and subject line content, which would have to be reviewed to determine if it is exempt from disclosure. Thereby, as your FOIA request is currently written, the dedication of staff and/or resources is unduly burdensome on the daily operations of the CPS.

You may wish to specify additional keywords to filter your search further and/or narrow the timeframe of your search.

This is not a denial of your request. Pursuant to 5 ILCS 140/3(g), we are asking that you narrow your request, in writing, to more manageable proportions. If you do not modify or revise your request to more manageable proportions within ten (10) business days, your request will be considered denied.

To the extent you consider this a denial, pursuant to 5 ILCS 140/9.5(a) you may file a Request for Review with the Public Access Counselor (PAC) at: Public Access Counselor; Office of the Attorney General; 500 South 2nd Street; Springfield, IL 62706. for example, the first interaction with the CPS FOIA office that i ever had included my fighting with them over the timeline of release of documents and them requesting a narrowing of records

there was a parent who had been elevated to do social control on other parents at the behest of a principal

the kind of archive that i'm sitting on is unique in that i created it for myself with specific purpose and i've learned specific things as a result

i've tasted a lot of pears and helped other people eat the pear also but it's not about the FOIA, it's about the way we can move power to people

i am making a set of handmade books so i can work on a new kind of archive to index my work interrupting chicago public schools and so we can analyze their tactics

this archive will go through letters that CPS issued in response to my FOIA requests

I have filed 801 FOIAs at CPS in my name to date

Whoever wants to know a thing has no way of doing so except by coming into contact with it, that is, by living (practicing) in its environment. ... If you want knowledge, you must take part in the practice of changing reality. If you want to know the taste of a pear, you must change the pear by eating it yourself.... If you want to know the theory and methods of revolution, you must take part in revolution. All genuine knowledge originates in direct experience.

I have been on the wrong side of respectability politics (even that decade or so when I really made an effort the ratchet would LEAP out on occasion) my entire life.

Why the fuck would I embrace it now, during a violent reboot of Jim Crow and for-profit human trafficking?

Why would you?

Giacomo Mancuso Obituary - Giacomo Mancuso. Longtime Chicago’s South Loop/Museum Campus, Little Italy Neighborhoods. Born in Vicenza, Province of Vicenza, Italy, came to the United States in 1963 with his family settling in …

what he could see in the city was a deep inequity, he tried to make an archive in a data file so created information could be used for dignity

while I didn't know him personally, I can see his archive everywhere I look around and we can extend the archive that interrupts, that stakes the refusal

a CPS resolution to honor Giacomo Mancuso

a CPS resolution to honor Giacomo Mancuso

when he retired, the Board honored him

I don't usually make much of these resolutions but Giacomo's imprint on the city is very strong and most people do not know his name at all

07.08.2025 04:20 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

over the last 5 years, CPS has really diminished the role of its demographer and while the District still makes the file, I don't think the demographer uses it

and certainly Board members don't know its original intention but it remains as one way to make an archive inside an apparatus

Student Assignment: Tarantula File, SY24 + SY25 Miriam Bhimani made this request to Chicago Public Schools of Chicago.

this is the most recent tarantula file that I have on hand, we can see that most kids in Chicago do not attend their neighborhood schools

this is true for k-8 and high school

07.08.2025 04:15 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

white families would demand CPS build annexes, additions and even new schools because they claimed their schools were overcrowded

often, political winds determined now CPS spent its capital dollars

but Giacomo wanted to interrupt the regular bureaucratic operation, started projecting enrollment

07.08.2025 04:13 β€” πŸ‘ 2    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

the maker of the file, Giacomo Mancuso, was a bilingual teacher for CPS during the 1980s and made a program to allocate bilingual teachers better than how the District was doing it

he moved to central office working as the District's demographer

he needed a way to evaluate claims of overcrowding

07.08.2025 04:11 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

my favorite data files in Chicago is called the tarantula file πŸ•·οΈ

it's a file that chicago public schools made to understand how many kids live inside a school attendance boundary, how many attend that school + how many come from outside a boundary

form follows function, buildings follow kids
