Good idea. Thank you. My brother is a paper conservator and I do have a textile conservator friend. I will explore options. My grandmother’s afghan is over 70 years old at this point.

Now that I have the afghan my mother made and one my grandmother made, and my recently made quilt, plus my hand quilted baby blanket & others I should build a quilt chest this spring since i am also a woodworker. Perhaps with a false bottom or secret till just for a bit of extra fun.

found the perfect gambeson sewing pattern to match my sensibilities. now to practise skills more until i am ready to tackle it & maybe in the meantime find the fabric & think awhile on whether a left handed sewing machine is a thing and if the right handed world again rears the head of conformity

I might be still too beginner for the first and i have cabinets for the latter but i appreciate the ideas

so now what project should i sew? the field seems slightly more limited for a beginner who is also a man.

Yes and feedng material (wood/fabric) into the machine at the speed it takes it at and listening to the motor while doing so. And steps in order of logical operation. Now to figure out something else to make.

Blanket made from a piece of shibori dyed cotton with a traditional bullseye circle pattern. Fabric is dark blue with white bullseye circles.

Two month anniversary of my mother’s passing. Learning to use her sewing machine for a blanket/quilt project using some shibori dyed fabric I have. Think she is looking over my shoulder. More on it tomorrow.
