I have made a reasonable facsimile of this sprite paper (US letter size). Please feel free to use.

I incorrectly said in my video that Lieberthal never mentioned any connection between the abacus and Chisanbop. Here he does draw a connection, and suggests that chisanbop was inspired by the abacus.

Text describing the similarities of Chisanbop (Mathpattes) and the abacus. The same section from the english version. Text says:

FINGER-PRESSING SEQUENCE
There is one final rule to learn before you get into action with Finger-math. And this is one place where this method parts company with piano-playing and typewriting. The new rule has to do with the order in which the fingers must be pressed. Playing the piano, you might press your thumb, your middle finger, and your pinky simultaneously to sound a chord. That just can't happen with Fingermath. The basic principle, which makes it possible for you to build up numbers correctly and scientifically, requires you to use your fingers in a carefully developed sequence. They may be combined only according to that sequence. In other words, you mustn't make up your own tunes or improvise in any way.

A similar rigid sequence is followed with other devices, such as the abacus, from which Fingermath was developed- or perhaps it was the other way around.

I think it's reasonable to assume that the first tools ever used to calculate numbers were fingers, and that the abacus was modeled on the hand, which, under the guidance of a wondrous brain, may be credited with the earliest developments of computation.

The ancient abacus probably was modeled after the hand. Note the similarity between the numerical values represented by each:

The text does not explain the origins of Chisanbop (Sung Jin and Hang Young Pai), but it does associate the method with the structure of the abacus. This description appears in Lieberthal's book as well.

A typical new video will lose me 3 or 4 subscribers in the first day or so, but eventually gains me subscribers as new viewers see it from recommendations.
The ones who watch immediately after I post are all subscribers already, so I can never gain subs from that audience- only lose a few.

Strange phenomenon: Every time I post a new video, I lose subscribers.

My interpretation: There are some subscribers who aren't really into me anymore. But they don't seek out my channel just to unsubscribe. They will only unsubscribe when they are reminded of me, which only happens when I post.

The Sterling Dial-A-Matic Adding Machine
YouTube video by Jaap Scherphuis The Sterling Dial-A-Matic Adding Machine

@jaapsch.net has a video about it, although I'm not sure exactly how the "SEE calculator" is related to the "Pascal-Type Calculator". They are obviously the same thing, but the SEE says 1968 on it, and this says 1984. Did Burt Harrison buy the design? I don't know.

Not a real Comptometer. How many errors can you spot?

On an auction site someone is claiming to have a Comptometer for sale, but the picture is some kind of AI-generated rubbish. I don't see the point, but it makes for a fun game: How many errors can you spot?

During all my research including years of eBay alerts for Chisanbop books, I never saw any indication that this book existed. But it looks like a full published version - not a proof copy or prerelease. So there must be others out there, but I never seen em!

Will scan and post to @archive.org soon!
