It just begs belief. You would think the local electionsceozld have sourced them on to veer onto the right course. And if course it did, in terms of the political spectrum only. It was always going to be hard, but they had a chance to do something really good. Instead, they did this.

A very simple solution to UK government's problems, but they would rather appease the fascists than do the right thing.

It is actually very difficult to stomach their approach to pretty much anything, but especially this backward step. Appeasement has never worked.

Yes, good luck to them. As others have pointed out, they operate like Virgin - woo new far right votes, while ignoring the views of their loyal voting base. Next election will see some major shifts, and the current quitting rate of labour membership does not imply that their approach is working.

They are preparing the ground to play the blame game for inefficient running of universities, rather than acknowledging that the current system is not fit for purpose.

Instead of being anti-immigrant, why not just change the narrative and reframe priorities? The only conclusion to be drawn is that the government is pathetic and unimaginative, and utterly reactive to the Farage bluster. Pathetic. Truly.

Bertrand Russell said Communism failed because it arose from a negative philosophy and hatred. As does fascism, and it will fail. Pandering to right wing idiots will not change things and won't give Labour another term. But doing positive tangible change will.

Embarrassment is the correct word. I don't know what goes in in those heads. We had hopes for a) closer alignment to Europe; b) save the NHS; c) mitigate the damages made in the name of Brexit/Covid incompetence. On all counts they have not only failed, but are going in the worst possible direction.

I completely agree. He may well cone "from a good place", but to forsake the majority of voters in favour of wooing some rightwing racists is not going to ensure a reelection or change. Actual change will, and sadly all our hopes for this government have long been flushed down the drain.
