I describe myself as too old to climb trees or chain myself to railings, but old enough to change my mind and do it anyway. I want to live in a fair and decent world. I value the contribution immigrants have made to Britain. Live and let live.

More about the EES from the EU's official website...

"For the purpose of the EES, β€˜non-EU national’ means a traveller not holding the nationality of any European Union country or the nationality of Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway or Switzerland."

Another Brexit benefit is coming soon. From October, it's going to be much more painful to travel to the EU.

What fun! The real question is, will the queues be visible from space?

(If Britain were still an EU member, the new rules wouldn't apply to Brits.)

Look at the response to Carney. To Jacinda Ahern. People respond well to leaders who stand firm, and stand up to bullies. Decency is admired if it comes with determination to do fight.

Starmer's not the answer.

Corbyn's not the answer either.

If your politics skew Labour or Labour-adjacent, you're going to have to find a new leader and a new direction.

Because right now the 2029 GE is Reform's to lose, and neither Starmer nor Corbyn have the clout to reverse that freight train.

Cheating.

By working a job, doing a service, getting paid.

That's totally what "cheating" means.

Doing it to pacify Reform or because he agrees with Reform? I cannot make up my mind if he is just slithering towards the far right?

The official UK Prime Minister Twitter account has posted 6 tweets so far in August.

All 6 have been about immigration.

Every one of them could have been authored by our next government, Reform.

Ludicrous levels of validation.

Thank you for posting this. No, I hadn’t see these posts. It is frustrating to have no Labour government presence on Bluesky. Poor @labourlewis.bsky.social gets tagged on many of my posts in the hope that he passes on general discontent. He does a very good job fighting for our water.

On Twitter but not on Bluesky...

- Keir Starmer
- Official UK Prime Minister account
- Yvette Cooper (nothing on Bluesky for months)
- Home Office

So if you're avoiding the Musk menace, you'll not know about all the anti-immigrant posts that have been gushing out of those 4 accounts recently.

Wherever they see a crack in society, Brexiters hammer a wedge into it to create a chasm. Lies, division and hate are their only weapons. If we want this decade old madness to end, we need to make truth, solidarity and empathy are our shield.

Its problem is that post-Blair they think the only way to win voters is to use focus groups to see what voters want. They’ve given up trying to persuade voters through argument. But the right spends a lot of energy and money persuading people. The focus groups reveal opinion shaped by that.

Imagine having a 150 seat majority in parliament and still having no power whatsoever because you’ve decided your priorities are playing the focus groups to try to keep the opposition’s voters happy and not upsetting a foreign tyrant who’s dismantling his own democracy and has his sights on yours

I agree with @13sarahmurphy.bsky.social in most ways. The only thing.l would say, is that Labour won with a huge majority because the country acted, as a whole, to rid itself of the dishonest and incompetent Conservative Party. He did not win on merit but he was β€œgiven a chance β€œ.

By any measure this was a good result for Keir Starmer's party. Yet that was not how it was reported.
"Labour's by-election win is no victory for Starmer" instead claimed the Times, in a
headline that appears to have redefined what the word "victory" actually means.
"Rather, once again it is Reform's political prospects that now look brighter."
So when Labour wins, it's actually a defeat, but when Reform loses it's actually a victory.
Heads Reform wins, tails Labour loses.

It’s bloody ridiculous. And a total abdication of the media’s responsibility to scrutinise and inform. Instead, they grab for headlines, sensationalise and give out free passes like smarties to a β€˜party’ fronted by grifting liars, with a joke manifesto and a track record of taking the piss.

Can someone please explain why it is that too many politicians only seem to want the votes of the prejudiced and the ignorant? To the extent that they are actively repelling anyone capable of rational thought and decency. Why the pathetic need to appease the bigot vote, at everyone else’s expense?

Three worlds, one breathtaking moment. This picture of Moon and Jupiter above the Earth's horizon was taken from the Space Shuttle Endeavour.

Europe urges Trump to use sanctions pressure ahead of Putin summit Washington advised to use economic penalties to shape talks and enforce any ceasefire

The sheer naivety of this β€œurge” says it all.
Trump has no intention whatsoever, and never had!, to put any sanction on Putin’s Russia.
Putin 100% owns him.
Why do people keep falling for this?!

FBI dispatching agents to D.C. streets as Trump weighs calling National Guard The unusual move comes as President Donald Trump threatens a federal takeover of the nation’s capital.

Trump is using the military to overthrow the civilian government in our nation's capital, and all I read are snarky posts about Epstein.

Aren't people listening? TRUMP IS USING THE MILITARY TO OVERTHROW THE CIVILIAN GOVERNMENT IN THE AMERICAN CAPITAL.

This is how our democracy ends.

They represent the VERY LOUD minority who would rather blame their own failures on brown people than look in the mirror. We are better than this… and it starts with the media not swarming around Farage like fucking moths to a light.

And parties like Labour should just stop trying to outwit these Reform lunatics.
Come up with decent policies and leave the racism to these nutters.
Their vileness warrants no response. Racist loonies that want to vote for them will do anyway.

The people who brought you Brexit on a promise of β€˜control’ now threaten civil unrest and frothing racism as govt policy…
For love of god can we just stop listening to anything they have to say. They represent nothing but inadequacy and failure. Surely our country can do better than this.

It is getting rid of Rent Control, soon no one but 'rich people' will be able to live anywhere in New York.

The far right is showing its face everywhere. Things must have been put in place years ago for this to work. We all have to fight for our Democracy by standing up for it, without fear. Even peacefully protesting a ban to protest Gaza in the UK is doing this. We must all be prepared to say β€œNo”.

Just 10 members of Congress have even dared to call Israel's mass murder in Gaza a genocide. Meanwhile, they're straight up murdering journalists. The gulf between what's happening and what most of our leaders will acknowledge is so remarkably vast.
