There is no case but the moral case. The public health data have precisely the moral valence that we give them and, crucially, that we are willing and prepared to act upon. The process of political development in public health is the process of developing just such a capacity for action - action that will be, by definition, not strictly related to public health in the majority of cases.
The intellectual action consists of the movement from "free them all for public health" to, simply,
"free them all." Public health will follow.

A 2 panel sketch disgram of a 1 meter tall pod. in the second panel, an oval section pops off and a demonic little face with short tentacles flies out, crudely drawn.
My favorite artifact in the "you don't need AI to do art" discourse is, of course, screenwriter Dan O'Bannon's sketch of the facehugger to explain it to Giger.

You can test new tech ideas using the Seinfeld Test
Would the product eliminate the plot of an episode? (Google maps, cell phones, paypal, battery packs)
Good tech.
Would the product inspire new Seinfeld plots? (NFTs, AI chatbots, crypto currency, blindboxes, metaverse land sales)
Bad tech.

Because I'm talking about measles. It is also A VERY VERY VERY CONTAGIOUS VIRUS. If someone is in a room and has measles and then leaves that room and you enter that room within TWO HOURS (depending on humidity) you can get measles.
And people are contagious for four days before the rash appears.

I was already not really giving the DNC money, but I think it will be very hard for me to ever put another cent into a political campaign when I could give it to the people on the ground who will spend it for direct good, and not put it into the pockets of advisors & analysts & pollsters.

Minneapolis is literally giving us the open blueprint on how we win. Minnesotans are showing up in spades with compassion to protest gun wielding men and demanding โgive us back our neighbours and leave our city immediately.โ It is a phenomenal act of courage.

The secret fear of the morally depraved is that virtue is actually common, and that they're the ones who are alone. In Minnesota, all of the ideological cornerstones of MAGA have been proved false at once. Minnesotans, not the armed thugs of ICE and the Border Patrol, are brave. Minnesotans have shown that their community is socially cohesive-because of its diversity and not in spite of it. Minnesotans have found and loved one another in a world atomized by social media, where empty men have tried to fill their lonely soul with lies about their own inherent superiority.
Minnesotans have preserved everything worthwhile about "Western civilization," while armed brutes try to tear it down by force.

Abolitionist organizer and author Mariame Kaba offers youth living through the current crises a renewed perspective on how to move forward.
"We have to help people understand what is (the current, shared reality), we must collectively imagine what can be (a future possibility), & we have to diligently labor for what must be (organizing to sustain life/โlivingness & for liberation)."

The Problem with Early Warnings
People don't like to leave a party unless the house is actually on fire. Even then, if the flames are far enough away to be pretty, they'll finish their drink, take one more pass at the hors d'oeuvres.
How things happen has always been unclear. Hurricanes begin in a place where no one lives.
Agents of the government start to wear masks. Fascism is a word my neighbors won't use yet. They are following
the law, they say, and the sirens are coming for someone else.
