The Emotional Toll of Living With Institutional Betrayal - Dame Magazine
What happens to us when institutions protect power instead of people? From Epstein to ICE, institutional betrayal is inflicting trauma and moral injury.
God, great piece from @damemagazine.bsky.social about living with institutional failure. I'll freely admit I'm furious at times just thinking about the institutions that should have at least tried to do something and instead contented themselves with the sidelines or outright collaboration.

In general, I don't weigh in on the nitty gritty of their electoral politics because I don't know enough and enthusiastic support for Newsom usually comes from just that. It's the same as the people cheering on Conway for that congressional seat in NY; he's a terrible fit and it wouldn't be a flip.

A large proportion of the Newsom fans on this app are Canadian or British. Their opinion truly carries no weight.

At a certain point I need to mute βNewsomβ because the debates around him are just fucking bait. Heβs not electable, but also weβre so far from a primary. Nobodyβs getting anointed in 2026; stop arguing with centrists who need to log off, touch grass, and find ways to process their anxiety.

There's a subset of people who were failed by the NYT et al., but agreed, low-info voters were never in that bracket.
People need to accept that most social media is fundamentally damaging (or charitably, our relationship with it) to our grasp of reality.

There are some late career Bukka White tunes that are 7+ minutes long and just him doing drawn out spoken-word over slide guitar, and...I dunno, you could see him being thirty or forty years younger and verging into hip-hop.

Was the first rapper from North Carolina?
As the story goes, hip-hop was born 50 years ago at a party in the Bronx. But what if it wasnβt that simple?
As the story goes, hip-hop music was first heard at a house party in the Bronx a little over 50 years ago. But what if it wasnβt that simple?
Turns out, a man from North Carolina with the incredible stage name Pigmeat Markham actually has a pretty good counterclaim.

If the rest of true crime was anything like this show Iβd actually like the genre. (Also this isnβt murder, which goes a long way). Iβm all for learning about how crime can be incentivized by regulatory decisions and the nitty gritty of ocean fishing.

How COYOTE Almost Got Slopped by AI
The sordid tale of the freelancer who never was.
Great piece from @coyotemedia.org, but it also made me want to throw a brick through a window. It is already hard enough to just get editors to write you back as it is; assholes like this trying to wheedle freelance commission dollars do not even deserve sympathy.

I don't really care for it tbh
When I was at the doctor two weeks ago, they offered me prednisone if I was interested to help with an asthma flare. And for a split second, I thought "whenever I take prednisone, I have a shit ton of energy!" before remembering that's incredibly irresponsible...

Trying to understand low info voters is looking through a glass darkly. It is so hard to set aside what *you* know and see the world through their eyes, and nothing illustrates that better than how they see and perceive Trump.
