I just hate everything about the American Family Center.
05.08.2025 00:43 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0The good news is this cross section is terrible now, but once traffic comes for the hospital, it'll be worse.
05.08.2025 00:41 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Don't worry boss, I put that ped safety sign in a great spot...pedestrians cant miss it!
(Private sign and not consistent with state law)
Cons: yes.
Pros: lots of room to fix at the next reconstruction
Some of our best TSP cost us essentially pennies. Just a loop in the pavement and programming.
04.08.2025 18:11 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Depends on what's there. Is there fiber or copper communication? Do you have a dedicated lane (yes)?
Then you can install a detection zone and write some TSP programming. A few thousand $ maybe?
Along this coridoor because our checkin detectors are at the previous signal, its rare to stop at signals along the route.
Signals run free, and median lane travel means more reliable travel times.
youtu.be/eftqQNXhbMA?...
Depends on how you program it and when your checkin points are.
When you stsrt laying out the system like a railroad preemption system (and run your signals free) you can be a lot more effective.
Did you get a chance to look at the controller programming?
04.08.2025 16:35 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Maybe, IDK.
I do know i saw no peds or bikes in the video yet that came up.
There could be a leading and lagging left turn phase and the ped phase not recalled?
You aren't solving this unless you separate the movements by lane or use a flashing yellow arrow.
Its really hard to discuss this without seeing the signal sequence as it is and cabinet drawing to determine what ot could be.
Yes, you could get rid of the right turn, but are you going to do that for every intersection? Because if not, youre shifting the problem to somewhere else, not solving it
So for those long ped intervals, you just push them off.
Not much you can do once they've begun...but perhaps if there's a median they could consider splitting the phase into two shorter ones?
This means we can give emergency preemption level TSP when we need greed extensions, but a more 'normal' priority level for phase reduction, which can be customizable by phase.
04.08.2025 02:32 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0This is where running signals free helps. We're finding TSP is more effective if the signal is not trying to force coordination.
At several signals buses trigger a high level TSP call when the signal is green, but lower if the phase isnt timing.
...also breakfast at Mickies and played where a street once was.

But this cat seems untrustworthy.
That stop is so much nicer than a few years ago when you just boarded from off the ground.
03.08.2025 00:07 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0You'd need a dedicated bus lane for that.
03.08.2025 00:04 β π 6 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Watching traffic around the Duck Pond after some event timing adjustments. At least if you push the button to get the walk, that will omit the flashing yellow arrow for the WBLT and EBRT movements.

The FYA dilemma:
We can't get rid of the flashing yellow arrow, there are too many left turns, that would mean longer left turn phase!
People can't find a single gap during the FYA.
We will have to lengthen the left turn phase as people can't find gaps.
But keep the riskier permissive left.
A cute baby elephant
Elephants are born weighing 250 lbs. They are the biggest babies on earth except for motorists when they see a bike lane

31.07.2025 00:58 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0The return trip this afternoon...same route in reverse...50 minutes, 16 of which at bus stops. Still only a little over 4 minutes of signal delay over 34 signals.
30.07.2025 01:21 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I meant more like commercial. IMO, charging at residential units is a must but some flexibility at commercial land uses, especially lower density ones. Like does a Starbucks downtown need an EV charging station?
29.07.2025 20:11 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I believe we've overdone the requirement at the planning level for charging stations at every development. What are your thoughts on that? Does this requirement hurt certain land uses where it might be unlikely THAT is the place people are charging their vehicles?
29.07.2025 20:03 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Total station dwell time was about 510 seconds, or about 23.2% of total travel time. Most stops were quick, but the last 3 took a while (70", 65", 50").
29.07.2025 18:48 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Set a new record this morning on the 6:50 WB A bus from Sun Prairie to the Square.
Total travel time = 36:40
Travel distance = 10.1 miles
Ave speed = 16.5 mph
Total signal delay = 191 seconds
WisDOT signal delay = 80 seconds (4 signals)
Madison signal delay = 101 seconds (30 signals)
