I mean, absolutely, we should read the fine print, but a nuclear war wouldn’t stop Canadians from playing β€œice hockey.”

Relive dorm room parties from undergrad, on a larger and classier scale!

I hadn’t opened it yet today until I saw this, just did and I can already tell that half of my guesses are going to get β€œnot in word list”

And yet as a Canadian just up the coast from you, I’d totally call that a chicken burger!

A thing Canadians need to ponder:

While Poilievre is howling all over social media about the trade deal Carney struck with Xi, keep in mind that Poilievre has not so much as a fucking clue about what is going on, because he refuses to get security clearance.

Even worse, when I lived all the way out in White Rock I’d dare to tell people from outside the area that I was from Vancouver, because guess which one they’ve actually heard of?

And at least for the able bodied, not a huge deal if the elevator is down. It’s in the realm of I wouldn’t choose to haul a bag of cat litter up the stairs to the 6th floor, but I can if I need to, while higher up that becomes more of an issue…

I think β€˜unhappy’ is interesting. It relates (for me) to the bottomless pit of NEED in someone so empty and narcissistic. It simply cannot be addressed or assuaged, even by toadying sycophants… and that way lies profound unhappiness? And maybe a desire to hurt everyone.

Last year I got Whammed on like Nov. 29 which technically doesn't count, but I didn't really bother playing after that. The perils of working for the Canadian branch of an American company that tends to do the holiday party on Black Friday because it's quiet for us...

The rules I've generally played by are that covers don't count, it has to be the original, but I'd probably put a big asterisk on any win where I heard a cover

I got Whammed in the first week of December, sadly. Still going on Little Drummer Boy, but I’m about to run out to the local bakery to pick up a preorder so fingers crossed!

I visited the Ben Romach distillery last time I was in Scotland, it's definitely worth a visit (and is within easy walking distance of a train station if you don't want to have to drive afterwards!)

Exactly. I’d rather have a transliteration that gets people using the name, even if it isn’t pronounced perfectly. And it might even make more people make the association that indigenous names aren’t something new, there are tons that have been in use for so long no one thinks about it

I don’t think I’ve ever owned a pair of jeans with pockets that could hold a paperback (women’s clothing is a whole other rant), but being able to easily throw a book into a purse is the same idea, and a lot of trade paperbacks are just a bit too big for that

I had no idea that it was still published until 2016, I had assumed it ended way before that! It lived firmly in childhood memories of checking out toys and building a wish list

There are no clothing machines.

All garments are handmade.

ALL of them.

There is no T-shirt machine. Every $5 shirt I’ve ever purchased was sewn together by a human being who is an expert sewist.

Just thought I’d mention that before tomorrow.

Sewing with a kitten in the house can be challenging, but Morgana is slowly learning to be a good little feline supervisor

Photos last year from Juno, Auschwitz, Hiroshima, Vietnam, Cambodia, and Bosnia.

Remembering, mourning, and hoping this century does not fall victim to the same needless horrors as the last one.

DNA scientist James Watson has a remarkably long history of sexist, racist public comments β€œPeople say it would be terrible if we made all girls pretty,” he said in 2003. β€œI think it would be great.”

Hey folks, as news of Watson's demise spreads, please don't set aside his weighty legacy of misogyny and racism. He was truly among the worst of us. www.vox.com/2019/1/15/18...
