Felt tree decorations - stocking and Penguin (Penguin pattern from American Felt & Craft)

I know they’re cute but I’m getting a bit bored of making felt tree decorations - only two more to go and lots of felt to cut before the work event next week #fiberarts

Today’s #SewAndTell theme is menswear. I don’t make much, but here is the loudest shirt ever, made for work to show off the colours you can get on the big Epson textile printers #garmentsewing

I’ve never had a yarn advent calendar so was a bit stumped for this week’s #ShowMeYourKnits. This baby cardi used up lots of mini quantities of Shetland wool though, so maybe it could count? 🧢

This week’s #SewAndTell theme is repair - I really need to resew all the press studs and fix a bit of the lining hem on my @sewoveritlondon.bsky.social 60’s coat before it gets much colder #garmentsewing

Ravelry: Designs by Cathy Dobson

One of the great things about #ShowMeYourKnits is seeing the work of fantastic designers like @meerbuschknitter.bsky.social - so many fantastic patterns to choose from (I especially love the Octopus jumper!) www.ravelry.com/designers/ca...

The theme for #SewAndTell this week is Everyday Heroes - here are the 6 @sewoveritlondon.bsky.social Ava skirts I have made (2 of them worn in the last 2 weeks!). Simple pattern, quick make, only uses 1m of fabric #garmentsewing

This pattern was created by Andrea Rangel, I believe - there are lots of leaf motifs in her AlterKnit and Knitovation books, which are both great

I love the dog hat - surprised that there aren’t more dog motif patterns around - it took me ages to find a baby pattern when I was knitting for my dog-mad niece!

Another floofy jumper for #ShowMeYourKnits - this one’s from 10 years ago - this was a great free Rowan pattern where there were pleats at one side to create an asymmetric effect - Kidsilk Aran I think (sadly shrunk into oblivion) 🧢

This week’s #ShowMeYourKnits theme is floof, so here are a couple of bright Kidsilk Haze knits - the red cardi that needs darning that I shared a couple of weeks ago and a purple jumper - both very simple Rowan patterns 🧢

Why yes, I did spend some of yesterday evening embroidering felt for a work thing where a poster would have been perfectly acceptable

My photo collage shows four hippo statuettes made of Egytian blue faience, a ceramic material made of ground quartz. Their bright-blue shiny bodies are decorated in black with depictions of Nile river plants such as water weed and lotus flowers. This decoration depicts their marsh habitat as well as having various layers of symbolism associated with regeneration. For example lotus flowers open in the morning and close at night, symbolising rebirth. Blue faience hippos have been found in Middle Kingdom tombs of high ranking officials. It’s thought they were placed in the tombs to aid the rebirth of the deceased.

Hippo top left - Walking hippo shown in profile facing right. Height 11.5 cm, Length 21 cm. Egyptian Museum, Cairo.

Top right - Roaring hippo (looks like the hippo is smiling), seated, with head at left and turned inwards to front. Height 7.5 cm, length 12.5 cm. Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek, Copenhagen.

Bottom left - Standing hippo in profile facing right. This hippo is part of the Met Museum’s collections and is popularly known as β€˜William’. Height 11.2 cm, Length 20 cm

Bottom Right - Reclining hippo with head on the right, facing front, and tilted down. Egyptian Museum, Cairo
