YesโฆAVA (stands for Alexandria VA) is the listserv previously known as Beverly Hills. That is where the blood mobile discussion is happening. The screen shot I shared is from the convo happening on the Rosemont listserv (the original one, not the new โofficialโ one). I love Alexandria. โค๏ธ

It would mean wading into the Rosemont listserv (or the AVA listserv depending on which convo you want to join!)โฆsure you want to go there?

Ha! How would that work though? On street parking is owned by the city, right? And doesnโt โbelongโ to any particular property owner?
I just hate that there is an assumption that the city is working in bad faith or trying to work against its residents. But Iโm probably fighting a losing battle. ๐

Also trying to figure out if there is a way to point out that there is no such thing as on street parking requirements for developersโฆ

Probably still wouldnโt hurt. Just reply to Beckyโs message & add a โme too!โ ๐ Iโm noodling on a reply to Pam (who I think is coming from a good place) who thinks that bike lanes are good but that we just need to find a way that doesnโt make people angry & turn people against them. Bless her heart.

I know! I do think itโs important for folks to see not everyone that lives there thinks itโs a bad idea.
I think Iโm getting ready to go round 2 on the blood mobile issue because her assertions that it would not be possible if it canโt park on Braddock truly make no sense to me.

Even though there have been less than 9 minor bicycle incidents in the past 9-10 yrs on E. Braddock Rd, the City of Alexandria is using bicycle safety as a pretext to ram through changes which will remove the parking on East Braddock, as well as removing multiple turn lanes on Braddock's intersections with Commonwealth, Russell, and Mount Vernon.
Many may assume that this is only a problem for the residents on E. Braddock Rd, but it will create significant additional congestion for all of the side streets around us, including yours. And the turn lane removals would seem to worsen congestion, not ease it.
There are some thoughts that the real reason the city is pushing this is to change zoning regulations for on street parking requirements, in order to make it easier for real-estate developers to make more multi-family units and apartments. If that is the case, over time it will change the very fabric of Rosemont and Del Ray, and adversely impact everyone's property values.
The city has not been transparent on data or on letting the communities really know what is going on. ย Theyโve had various meetings with community groups, but I havenโt seen flyers or mailing notices about these meetings and reviews. ย Theyโve also not provided the data, or only incomplete data, and impact studies and other artifacts associated with their claims.
โThe city is conspiring with evil developersโ has entered the chat. These conversations are so exhausting.

Now that Iโve tweaked a couple of settings, other than being annoyed by the random icons that are now blurry (why?) turns out I donโt hate it?

I see this a lot. Refusing to believe that staff is working in good faith & instead seeing decisions they donโt like as personal retaliations. Sigh.

PS: If you think things like blood drives in our neighborhood are important, consider writing to the Traffic & Parking Board to let them know. If the proposed Braddock Road Corridor Improvements Project is adopted at the meeting on February 23, this may be the last time INOVA is able to hold a blood drive at Good Shepherd. Without street parking on Braddock Road, INOVA may not be able to bring the equipment they need for the blood drive into the church building.
A quick email expressing your support for maintaining parking on West Braddock Road would be greatly appreciated! Write to:
TrafficandParkingBoard@alexandriava.gov no later than February 22.
Soโฆnow the argument appears that we will never have community blood drives again if we get bike lanes.

I think this is where Iโm headed. Especially being right across the street which makes it really easy.
Since I donโt print regularly, there always seems to be something going on w/ the ink cartridges when I need it. Bought it when I moved here cuz itโs small & I donโt have much room. Just a PITA.

Once again saved by @alexlibraryva.bsky.social! I rarely print so anytime I do involves a huge fight with my printer. Just had to print off a 1 page document & my printer wasnโt having it. Was able to upload my Google doc & run across the street to print it at Duncan Library for $.25.

And the best thing is that in the midst of <all this> it feels good to actually be able to make a positive difference locally. โค๏ธ
