Opinion | Elon Musk Can’t Possibly Deserve His $1 Trillion Payday In the face of shareholders, corporate boards and even judges, Tesla’s chief executive shows what he can get away with.

In @nytopinion.nytimes.com

The excesses of America’s most powerful people β€œwould end sooner if more Americans saw what Mr. Trump and Mr. Musk are doing: ushering in a new era of brazenness that will persist as long as people buy the hype and cheer the flexes,” William Cohan writes.

The book is honestly amazing. Now, I’m a massive fan of The Martian (both the book and the film) so the book was kinda set up for me. But even given that, I loved it. Possibly even more than The Martian.

To those thinking they give it all away in the trailer … no, no they do not :)

Trump defends Saudi crown prince over Khashoggi killing The de facto Saudi ruler was branded a pariah in 2018 after the killing of Washington Post columnist Jamal Khashoggi. Now, U.S.-Saudi relations are approaching a high point.

Just so we're clear: President Donald Trump on Tuesday defended Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman over the killing of Washington Post opinion columnist Jamal Khashoggi, saying "things happen.” www.washingtonpost.com/world/2025/1...

List of stories set in a future now in the past - Wikipedia

Wikipedia's "List of stories set in a future now in the past" is quite possibly my favourite Wikipedia list. It's a list of science fiction where the setting was futuristic when they were created but now is not, and gives their predictions en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of...

Incredible serendipity today. We had a 2 hour meeting about piharau/lamprey. Half the group had never seen one in the flesh. One of the attendees had to leave early to do some recovery fishing on a local fish passage project. He joked he would let us know if he found piharau. One minute before...1/2

Like all men but more so, he was a hunter. In a literal sense, he used not a bullet but a bird. It was not about a chase but about a puzzle of logic and skill that amounted to a test of his self-mastery. He was the mouse and the architect of his maze. The giver of his own pleasure and torment. He desired. He desired desiring. He desired being desired. He desired desire itself. I understood this just as I came to understand the range of his kinks and complexes and how they fit within what I thought I understood of his soul.

I would take a bullet for you," the Politician said. He always said that. "Please don't say that," I said. I always said that. From his mouth the bullet theoretical launched the bullet possible. I did not like to think about it. About the armed man at his speech.
Or the armed man who broke into his home. Or the armed men he paid to guard him from armed men who sought to harm him while the federal government denied his pleas for protection from the security agency whose modern protocols were carved by the same bullets that cut boughs from his family tree and cut the track of the American experiment.

International Criminal Court to ditch Microsoft Office for European open source alternative | Euractiv The court will move its internal work environment to Open Desk, a German-developed open source software
