why I always say there's nothing "intelligent" about what is being billed in this timeline as "AI". Nor does it deserve to be ascribed as a being--its a thing.

Thread, up and down, but this part is—I believe—a fatal and foundational flaw in LLMs as a virtual entity you can converse with and learn from.

The driving idea is that outputting the appearance of thought is interchangeable with actually thinking, and that's not true.

Large Language Models rely on chewing through vast stores of human writing. They learn to regurgitate and mash words together well enough to get by. But as Katie says here, these machines were designed, first and foremost to be *convincing*.

Usually fan service, especially in anime, is way over done and is egregious and not at all clever to even try to disguise it as such...FF thankfully did the exact opposite and included it with so much skill that it was joyful rather than cringe

So for example in FF, there were frequent name drops of canon/historic characters that the average movie goer wouldn't know, expect or care--but it's the fans, specifically those more familiar with the source material, that would benefit the most..thus "fan service"
