πThe Bewitching
βοΈSilvia Moreno-Garcia
β3/5
Perfect time of year for a witchy story. Took a while to get into but I ended up enjoying all 3 POVs.
As far as horror books go, this wasn't very scary - more of a thriller/mystery with supernatural elements.

I can't in good conscience give this book 5β because some scenes were unnecessary fucked up, but not gonna lie, I ate it up.
I went in blind, but definitely check TWs if picking this up - won't be for everyone.

Those are the books that maybe started off interesting enough but then took a dive, but I was too deep to stop. Or ones that pissed me off so much that I had to finish just so I had the satisfaction of 1 β-ing π
Not all my DNFs are necessarily a 1β - sometimes I'm just not in the mood for the story

Have I been harsh with my ratings or did I just pick up a lot of shit books? π€

Read this to complete a challenge. Not bad but not really my thing either.
I think a lot might've been lost in translation - it felt quite stilted.

πMy Friends

I'm not crying, you're crying.
Fredrik's storytelling in this book was incredible. I never knew where it was going.
Beautifully written with wonderful characters. Definitely will end up in my top 10 reads of 2025.

Perfect time of year for a gothic dark academia romance.
Really enjoyed the plot and myseries in this one.

50 pages in and already cried multiple times.
Fredrik, what are you doing to me??

Read 55k in 2024 and 60k in 2023. I don't think I'll beat those numbers but I have been averaging over 100 pages per day which is what I tend to aim for!

πCareless People
βοΈSarah Wynn-Williams
A trillion dollar company being shady? You don't say.
Hard to rate this one.
Although I knew FB was toxic, I didn't realise the extent of it. Am I shocked? No.
I do think the author is missing some self-awareness of her own complicity though.

Toxic lesbian vampires? Say less.
The pacing of the story felt very slow to me but I was hooked pretty much throughout. Beautifully written. Very similar vibes to Addie LaRue.

Aaaaaand that's enough of that.
The FMC turned into an idiotic doormat - couldn't believe she was written by a female author tbh.

It's been a while since I've read a Mafia romance and the Mulan-esque premise drew me in.
It did lack in areas and the FMC's decision-making was a little flawed at best, but I gobbled it up nevertheless. Onto book 2!

Is there a way to filter out ads and self-promotion posts on the #booksky feed?
All about authors getting that bag but it's getting a little much.
I want to see more reviews and actual recommendations!
Waiting for this one from the library!

πThe Devils
βοΈJoe Abercrombie
β2/5
For a book that had a lot happening, nothing really happened.
I really wanted to like this, but it felt extremely repetitive. Half of the book was filler and at no point did it hook me.
Ended up skimming the last 30%.

πIf It Makes You Happy
βοΈJulie Olivia

A cosy, small town romance with perfect autumnal vibes. It very much read like a 90s rom-com in the best possible way.
Nothing new or revolutionary but definitely hit the spot π

πWrite Me For You
βοΈTillie Cole
β1/5
I was so ready for a sad story, but I couldn't get past the cringe.
The HEA chapters completely lost me and I ended up skipping them altogether.
For what was supposed to be a deep, profound story, everything was actually very surface-level.

A cute little best friends to lovers number - one of my favourite tropes if done right. This one was okay but had a LOT of miscommunication which gets old fast.
It was a quick, easy read though, and it got me out of a reading slump.
