My new hobby is, apparently, picking a fight with this collection of buildings on the Hauptplatz

I forgot to post for ages, but I’ve been busy taking photos, painting watercolours, and drawing nude people. I’m not going to use the alt text, I’ll just let you work out which is which

I agreed to help cook for one of our visiting lecturers, so I did a huge bowl of dhal. I sat at the back of the lecture and drew everyone who came. The lecture was by samiahenni.com who was a great speaker, taking about nuclear testing and its effects (spoilers: effects not good)

Henni has made a deep study of the French nuclear testing and its effects, and her greatest point for me was that these projects take time - creating a deep interest and body of knowledge with the skills you have now is a big investment.

An dusty, industrial looking control panel in a wall. There are two big white square buttons on it. The one on the left has a red border and the letter 'i' touching the bottom, representing a person stuck to the ground (the dot of the i being their head). The 2nd button also has a red border, but inside the button is an upside down stickman figure, arms and legs spread out. To indicate this person is floating around helplessly in zero-gravity.

You know who should've won an Oscar last night? The person who designed the little 'Gravity on / off' buttons in Alien Romulus.

The answer is that the first one has more “open” paper, where the structure of the paper soaks up water better. The other book - which was three times the cost 😤 - is more concerned about what the paper “should” look like, and so gives it a shitty texture. Sigh. Only 102 pages to go 😔

The “watercolour” notebook is very frustrating, as although it says it’s a watercolour notebook it is just very thin paper with a slightly textured surface. So it’s really for tinted drawings. But why?
