On a profound level, I don’t understand this country

My final optimistic prediction. Kamala wins. Blue wall is close but not razor thin margins. She also wins one of either NC or GA plus NV, which is razor close, remains unknown for a few days, but ultimately doesn’t matter. I say we know by late Wednesday morning.

So all options are reasonably in play. In that case I think we can all just ignore the micro polling shifts over the next 6 days

The irony is that his decision lost the loyalty of folks who DID trust the Post. So he just added 200,000 folks (at minimum) to the problem he’s cynically appealing to now.

To add: these are things you can never anticipate or predict. Indeed as a faculty in the know, I’ve seen searches evolve in ways I would never have imagined

I’m resolving to ignore them. The daily fluctuations don’t change the underlying reality - it’s either really close or the polls are really off. In either case, no need to poll watch. If something huge shifts or happens I’ll hear about it anyways.

This 1000x. I don’t think most people can wrap their heads around how much a billion dollar is. It is always dangerous for anyone to have that many resources

The panic around participation trophies always seemed overwrought. The recognition for showing up and trying doesn’t preclude the recognition that some kids won and some lost. After all every kid on every team is aware of who the ‘best’ players are.

We’d be better served if we thought the purpose of youth sports was not producing pros (in the vast majority of cases it will not anyways) but instead providing opportunities for ‘serviceable’ athletes to exercise, have fun, and be part of a team

I’m not against elite clubs for the few savants. But so many clubs masquerade as elite, make false promises & hollow out the middle ground between uber-competitive-tournaments-every-weekend sports and the local disorganized YMCA leagues. Most kid athletes fall into that middle ground

The problem is that they love the sport, join a club team and find the sport becomes hyper professionalized at a young age, thus decreasing their love of it. I mean many kids love to play baseball; only a few love the endless hours doing tee work in a cage

With two young generally athletic kids who are not weird obsessives, I concur. Travel/club sports consume all the resources, leaving rec leagues underfunded and under enrolled. It has also created a serious wealth inequity issue
