there isn't a more idyllic venue for a summer concert than deception pass. beautiful music, gorgeous sunset, a majestic bald eagle, and a magical evening.

What (in my view) needlessly enables weaponization is

A) claiming that problems in science and their consequences are universal and

B) claiming that there is anything coherently resembling a gold standard.

The point is simple:

if you are worried that social psychology fails to replicate and believe it’s due to p-hacking… say that. Don’t say it’s a science wide phenomenon with common solutions… as there is precisely no evidence to back that up.

It's a surefire way to deny any responsibility for bad decisions, mistakes, questionable priorities, power dynamics in the name for necessary moral superiority. When everything is black and white, surely you cannot be at fault for choosing white.

My biggest beef with such milquetoast takes is the relentless search for a dichotomous world where no complexity, nuance, or contextual understanding is allowed. It's always a forced either/or frame (transparency or complete secrecy; integrity or ethical breakdown; truth or falsehood,...).

Yeah the weirdness about the whole thing weirds me out so much. It's pretty... reasonable? If somewhat ill-positioned to fill some gap that might not really exist depending on what people read, whom they talk to, etc. That framing is the weakest part; otherwise hard to understand the outrage.
