Twice they have decided not to show replays of questionable calls (the crap PI on Buffalo) and then the lack of PI on ATL on 2nd and 10 just a minute ago. Also, just now hip-drop tackle taking out Palmer.

Today my @nytimes.com colleagues and I are launching a new series called Lost Science. We interview US scientists who can no longer discover something new about our world, thanks to this yearβ€˜s cuts. Here is my first interview with a scientist who studied bees and fires. So what are the bottom lines?

First, a HUGE thank you to NIH staff (particularly grants management specialists but program officers and others as well) for getting this work done in a compressed period with many other stressors.

The best email you can receive from students right after a really complicated lecture is: "I was just thinking about class, [...] and I just wanted to say that I have been so inspired to learn more. It is so awesome and mind blowing how it all works I am still trying to wrap my head around it." πŸ₯°

No more postdocs on H1B visas, that would seem to be an obvious outcome. Probably not at the professor level either.

Trump signs proclamation imposing annual $100,000 fee on H-1B visas Move deals potentially major blow to US tech industry, which relies heavily on workers from India and China

25% of Drs in US are foreign grads. Many are on an H1B visa. This will hit health systems hard especially rural hospitals and hospitals in underserved areas that sponsor these visas through waiver programs. The old cost was about 5000$ a year.

i don’t think people on bluesky understand the severity of this situation.

i woke up to literally hundreds of texts from friends and family thinking about either moving back home to india or applying to other countries for jobs. this includes me.

Two solutions that would bring back #MedPeds trained #doctors as well as increase #Pediatrics workforce:
1) pay #Pediatricians exactly same as adult medicine doctors for identical work (eg pediatric vs adult hospitalists)
2) provide same respect as IM doctors (which isn’t much, but more than Peds)

A huge shoutout to all the dedicated grants management specialists at the NIH who are working around the clock to push grants out before the Sep 30 deadline. And also to the POs responding to frantic emails.
Not an easy job under the best of circumstances and right now it's the pits.
Thank you!

I am deeply saddened and angered by news that more NIH RIFs may happen next week. This is unacceptable, especially after NIH staff have worked nights & weekends to dig out from the backlog created by this admin's incompetence.

Tell your Congress people NIH needs its staff to keep delivering cures

University of Oregon announces 60 staff cuts, no layoffs for tenured faculty The cuts did not eliminate any programs and delivered a softer blow than campus unions expected.

Another casualty of the war our govt is waging against itself. Already lost 117 filled positions + 57 open positions, then another 60 to be announced this week. Shaved ad'tl $ by cutting future "grad employees" ie slots for doctoral students to do research/teach

This is me, one of those 211. My A1 R01 renewal would have been funded otherwise, and I was even initially told they planned to fund it. Now very unlikely. No more chances with this one. We had so many good things going-how do we keep moving forward? A question many of us will be asking.
