Unbelievable stupidities. How the press can rise to the moment.

TLDR: the media is not covering what's happening in the USA and what its federal government is doing. And I guess - fascism - it's not *quite* unprecedented, ie they should remember history. I'm astounded to see "how did it happen" unfolding IRL now. :( www.cjr.org/the_media_to...

That was my first reaction. Then "use your ears, not a diagram" - had to have the BS explained to me, because the visual was impenetrable.

The reluctant collaborator: surviving Syria’s brutal civil war – and its aftermath At 18, Mustafa was told his only way out of prison was to join the regime forces. After 14 years, his past as one of Assad’s fighters could get him killed

An amazing read. I remember asking a Syrian language exchange partner about the situation in his country. He said it was too complicated to explain. Yeah, to a naive Canadian like me, yes. www.theguardian.com/news/2025/ma...

My American friend, who has lived in Canada 50 years cuz she married a Canadian guy, just applied for Canadian citizenship. She had said she would never immigrate. Well, thanks the orange fascist, she changed her mind. Good call, I'd say. But I'm very surprised by this today!

Wow, having read this more carefully, it's deeply insightful, I feel. As someone who could never make sense of gender, had I gone George Sand I would not have been able to have the experiences she had. I wouldn't have had the social imagination. Gonna check the book out.

What it's like to hike the Astungkara Way in Bali A new hike through the rice paddies and forested interior of Bali offers a meaningful way to experience Indonesia’s β€˜Island of the Gods’, without the crowds.

Well, some things in Bali haven't changed since the 80s. Still black rice pudding for breakfast, the arak experience, but now they've created a walking trail for tourism - I loved walking the rice paddies back in the day. A real favourite thing

Double agent Norah Vincent spent 18 months disguised as a man. She relives the boys nights out, the bad dates - and what happened when she ended up in bed with another woman.

Global sperm production is down, plummeting. Unfortunately, that is a sign of generally worsened health, not too surprising in this world. On the bright side, maybe it'll make a dent in overpopulation. Many people feel they do not have enough, and yet tend to deny overpopulation. archive.is/VriND
