i.e. the lowest cost technology of identitical commodities win out in competition, but renewable electricity has higher costs than initially assumed and the commodity they produce is different, because it is intermittent.

I do feel like a large part of Christophers argument rests on the fact that:
1) Costs for renewables are significantly larger than LCOE because of transportation and land costs
2) Renewables produce electricity when the price is lowest
Which doesnt seem incompatible with Marx idea of competition.

If I was advising the EU—and I 100% should be—my advice is that you prepare three sets of sanction packages:
1. Deliberate targeting of personal/corporate assets of Trump, Musk, Andressen, Sacks, etc like they’re Russian oligarchs by doing stuff like seizing Gigafactory Berlin. This gets used first.

If Xi Jinping invaded Taiwan right now, and toppled the president there, on what grounds would the United States object? Or have any credibility to say anything?

Better to follow Draghi's logic - things Europe won't do (solar, low value-added manufacturing), can do (EVs, R&D in hard to abate sectors) and must do (wind, batteries, pharma and biotech).

The difficult truth is that a radical programme probably needs to be conservatively financed.
Some on the left appear to confuse radical proposals for financing mechanisms with proposals for a policy programme itself.

#dkpol

Brett Christophers · Assume the worst: Where our waste goes
Just as Big Oil has repeatedly failed to deliver on pledges to begin decarbonising, so too the promises of plastics...
‘As with climate change, the focus on consumers deflects scrutiny that should be directed towards industry. Not only do companies help establish false representations of consumer wastefulness, they are themselves waste creators on a gigantic scale.’

This week, the Global Sumud Flotilla tried to deliver life-saving aid to Gaza.
Instead, 461 people—including New Yorkers—have been detained by the Israeli military.
They must be freed at once. And the deliberate starvation of Palestinians must end now.
