My son asked me the other day if the guy who plays Danny DeVito in the commercials has any other famous characters. A haunting question

was reminded that I did a joint interview with Catherine O'Hara and Cecily Strong in the midst of the pandemic. a small but great insight from O'Hara about why she loved playing characters who were oblivious to how they came across to other people. www.nytimes.com/2020/08/24/a...

The arrests of journalists Don Lemon and Georgia Fort are a test for every MSM member with a platform. If you are not voicing your outrage at this blatant violation of the First Amendment, you are utterly discredited as a journalist.

Some things you should know about Fulton County, Georgia The county has already seen numerous claims about election fraud β€”Β all debunked. There's no reason to think that Kash Patel's FBI will find something new.

I felt obliged to write up an overview of all of the Fulton County fraud claims that have already been made β€”Β and dismissed. Let me know if I forgot any. www.pbump.net/o/some-thing...

I’m ok. I’m a survivor so this small agitator isn’t going to intimidate me from doing my work.

I don’t let bullies win.

Grateful to my incredible constituents who rallied behind me. Minnesota strong.

Some might hate on American cheese for tasting like neutral oil, but it's the GOAT for melting. Nothing quite like it. Burger looks good.

Yes I hear that, and I don't want to restrict any writer from re-purposing a concept in an original way for their endeavors β€” that is unless it's JKR. Then I'm prepared to be petty.

A poignant and funny romp of a book, for all its conceptual heft. I think Erich Auerbach said it best in Mimesis when he noted how the Knight's purity reveals the corruption or worldliness of nearly everybody else he encounters.

Plainly conspiratorial, I admit, but isn't anybody going to float that Rowling may have cribbed the concept of a school for kid wizards from A Wizard of Earthsea, which came out almost 30 years before the first HP book?

β€œEveryone should be allowed to carry a gun for their safety but the government can murder you in the street if you have a gun” is an incredible endpoint for the conservative moment

Oh yeah, eugenics and fascism are features of this contemptible type, agreed. I was only saying they're idiots too, much like when tech bros invoke Nietzsche to justify themselves. Just way out of their depth, but still malign actors.

Have experienced IQ obsessives to be intellectually incurious and in bad faith, which is the most generous phrasing I'd use for them. And it's also safe to assume they're unaware of Binet's own belief in how augmentable and elastic intellect can be.

The majority of organizing happening in Minnesota isn’t just peaceful, it’s INVISIBLE. Moms showing up who won’t be interviewed on TV, people whose ICE patrols don’t turn into viral video. The grocery runs, the donations, the people filming bc they happen to be there. Please remember this.

If I could write about anything as well as Ursula K. Le Guin writes about dragons, or Han Kang writes about snow, or Anne Carson writes about antiquity, I would forever be a contented writer.

Donald Trump's new logo for the Board of Peace, which focuses on a globe view entirely of the United States and doesn't contain or correctly show Greenland, Iceland, or Europe at all.

Donald Trump's AI-generated "Board of Peace" logo is so bad it doesn't even have Greenland on it, the territory he almost took the US to war this week to seize. No, really, look closely:

Yeah, the thing is, Weiss had complete editorial control over the Free Press for years and if you read it you would not understand the threat to American society that Trump poses. I don't care what she says privately to her friends. She got the CBS job because of this acquiescence to Trump.

Trump trying to start a weird stupid war no one wants out of spite because he's mad about not getting a Nobel Peace Prize is dead center "gag you would leave in drafts because it is both too obvious and not funny." Obviously this is all bad but it is also just incredibly hack. What a way to go.
