Hebrew calligraphy in dark green stretches in lines across the image. Negative space makes room for a simple representation of an inflatable frog costume with a blue bandana. That shape consists of the English translation of the Hebrew, in a lighter green, and in much smaller text.

Famously, the Egyptian tyrant causes Egypt to be overrun with frogs because he refuses to free the Hebrew people, but there are additional details that make this a fun one to ponder. For one, the Hebrew says "the frog came up" - ONE frog - even though the rest of the time it says "frogs." So there are a few explanations rabbis have come up with to explain this. One is that a single frog multiplied to create swarms. A more creative explanation is that there was a singular giant frog who traveled and brought destruction. Jewish social media was sharing videos of the Portland Frog protester with the caption, "One Big Frog! One Big Frog!" Of course the frog protesters did multiply, and many were seen in crowds all over the world on "No Kings" Day. This calligraphic work takes the verses addressing the frog plague and combines them to form a simple rendering of the Portland Frog protester. The frog figure itself is made up of the English translations of the Hebrew around it. At the bottom left my signature is in the shape of a lily pad.

"Tzefardea Tzedek" (Frog of Righteousness)

As soon as the Portland Frog became a meme, Jewish social media blew up with jokes about the 2nd Passover plague - tzefarde'a (frogs) - and the Rabbinical commentary around it. I knew I had to make a calligraphy piece encompassing all of it. (more in alt.)

Image projection technology was invented hundreds of years ago, and its purpose remains the same today as it was back then: to look at monsters with their tiddys out

You know what’s really really fucked up?

I think I was a tad over the line here and in my anger slipped into some mild homophobia and I regret using β€œsuck Bernie’s dick”

I had that realization in under 2hrs.

Graham Platner wore an SS tattoo for 18 years.

a man sits at a desk with a book on top of it Alt: Troy Barnes, a character from Community played by Donald Glover, is seen here cocking his elbow back to give an exaggerated thumbs up, matched with an oversized smile.

There is so much more to this album than 'Hey Ya!'. When I say no skips, I even mean the skits. And, yes, the instrumental track, too.

Even that song about Vampires that sounds like Troy Barnes made it. Not Donald Glover. Not Childish Gambino. This guy:

I feel like I could find a way to reach someone that drank the Kool-Aid a bit too deep, and truly believes in the oath of enlistment they took.

I don't know how to reach someone where it's clear they're just in it for the money.

Now, see? Those are the guys I'm going to judge the hell out of, as a vet that separated right in the middle of Bush's second term.

By then, it was clear what we were doing over there. The "Defend against all enemies foreign and domestic" thing was flimsy af, but mercs don't even have that.

And unless you happen to have a really specific MOS or AFSC, you weren't transferring any of those skills into meaningful employment. At least not until Blackwater really got off its feet, and made a lot of those skills VERY transferrable.

And that's to say nothing about how a lot of those kids already came from poor communities, and the military was their only option for steady work after leaving high school.

Aint my place to judge a desperate kid, especially if they got out. It's the ones that stay in that I'm gonna judge tf out of

Didn't want to derail the thread, but there's another angle here that no one talks about;

Until the govt. gave businesses tax incentives for hiring veterans, especially disabled ones, the police force was often the only gig in town for young men fresh off their enlistment.

Dudes from Shreveport with a southern accent and a grandparents born in a logging camp tent don’t get passes for Nazi tattoos and we don’t get to call ourselves β€œworking class” once we buy a new pickup and own our own home.

Funny how that standard don’t apply to Yankees.

I'm gonna be honest, I literally grabbed this book off the shelf and looked for a name I didn't recognize. I figured if you were gonna learn new music, I might as well, too.

I have been traveling and today I present to you...the thing I saw in the Frankfurt airport.

Is it efficient? Undeniably. Does it probably work better than the normal way? Oh certainly. Produce less of a mess? Probably?

But the existence of Condiment Udders gives me a deep, aghast disquiet.

You're absolutely correct! I still stand by the band choice, though. Swagger wasnt as strong as Drunken Lullabies, but it's a hell of a debut

Kevin McCarthy: "I call it the 'Seinfeld' shutdown because it's a shutdown about nothing." Former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy criticized Democrats for declining to pass a continuing resolution to keep the government open.

Of all folks that get an opinion on the shutdown, the guy that took 15 rounds of voting to get the Speaker's seat, only to fuck up and lose it in less than a year is absolutely fucking not one of them.

Given how close they built the Shreveport distro facility to Caddo Correctional Center, I give it less than a year before the rest of those jobs are done by prison labor.

Trust me, it's all going to get much, much worse before this story is over.

a drawing of a person with a red eye Alt: A scene from Gachiakuta. A very, very, very angry little dude in a hoodie and oversized gloves summons a creature based off a hamsa, or Eye of Fatima.

Gachiakuta has been a strange trip so far. It's good, but has some tonal whiplash.

It'll give you the tenderest scene about navigating childhood trauma this side of Steven Universe, then follow it up immediately with punching someone in the face while calling him a Shit Biscuit.

As someone who moved here only about ten years ago, I'd be fascinated to hear what this town was like back then.

I've got a bit of a blind spot between Sam Cooke visiting, and Cedric Glover getting elected mayor, so this would be a huge help filling in those gaps.

Shreveport was the capitol of the Confederacy for the second half of the Civil War, after they got kicked tf out of Baton Rouge.

Shreveport also had the largest red light district in all of the U.S., and a fleet of gambling boats. Basically, Swamp Vegas.

Why TF isn't this a game already?

As the second of four kids, it was nice to have just one goddamn snack my siblings wouldn't take from my Easter Basket. Black jellybeans taste like death and sadness, but I kind of developed a love for it, even against my better judgement.

It's a pretty advanced case of Snackholme Syndrome..

Huey p Long, former Governor of Louisiana. Had a few bold ideas about radical wealth distribution, and how no man could possibly need more than a few million dollars. The bullet that took his life is still in the wall of the Louisiana State Capitol building in baton rouge.

Huey p Newton, one of the founders of the Black Panthers, born in Monroe, Louisiana, before moving his way out to Oakland. He had some radical ideas himself, wild things like children should be able to eat, and you should be able to defend yourself in kind against armed opponents.

If I had a nickel for every time America got worse because Huey from Louisiana got shot, I'd have two nickels.

Which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice
