It's odd for me to realize that my first-year undergraduates are at an age where they don't really remember that there was a form of US politics prior to Donald Trump. For them, Trump is not an aberration from the normal course of political discourse, but just how US politics is done.

The worst chief justice of all time Move over, Roger Taney and Melville Fuller.

New in PN: The worst chief justice of all time

"American history has no shortage of legendarily bad chief justices and disgraceful decisions. But John Roberts has overseen the wholesale corruption and capture of the Supreme Court, and history should look back on his tenure with revulsion."

House Speaker Johnson argues the War Powers Act is unconstitutional President Donald Trump called Republican Rep. Thomas Massie, who introduced a War Powers resolution to bar U.S. military engagement in Iran, a "LOSER."

Pathetic. Congress passed the War Powers Act to preserve the constitutional role of Congress in war-making, because presidents kept sending our military into combat without Congress' authorization. But Johnson is fine with presidential dictatorship. www.cnbc.com/2025/06/24/j...

I thought that after the George W. Bush debacle in Iraq, the US would never elect another incurious, lazy, uninformed dunce to be president. But the American voter said, "Hold my beer!"

NASA couldn’t get away with this many failures without being investigated by congress. Musk just keeps right on launching and blowing up rockets and everyone acts like it’s no big deal.

In 2024, Biden signed into law a $105 billion measure designed to end a shortfall in air traffic controllers.

In 2025, Trump came in and instead began firing hundreds of them.

So you can see how *clear* it is that Biden is to blame for the shortage now.

US has a trade surplus with the UK, already. Trade with the UK is just 3 percent of US total trade. Avg tariff on US trade w/UK is already just 1 percent. As Justin Wolfers said on MSNBC...this is not small potatoes, it's tiny little peas. Gains are likely to be a.) small and b.) inconsequential.

Newsletter: There is no AI Revolution. Consumer adoption of generative AI outside of ChatGPT is barely 100 million people, every single company in generative AI is deeply unprofitable, Microsoft is pulling capex, and OpenAI spent $9bn in 2024 to lose $5bn.
