Went to yoga, and for the first time in about 2 1/2 years I can do a 3 legged dog again with the weight on my left foot! I messed up my left ankle in early 2023 and it's just now very slowly feeling like it's coming back online.

Getting to the part in the turning of the year when it feels like it's already been dark for a long time and it's late but it's only really 7:15 PM.

My alma mater @carleton.edu runs on a trimester system, which dispenses of this problem quite neatly. Everyone's done by Thanksgiving and then you don't come back until early January for winter term.

So say we all.

For a change, I made enough mashed potatoes to have ample leftovers from Thanksgiving. Clearly the next thing I need to scale up & plan for next time is the Brussels sprouts. We ate a pound of Brussels sprouts between the two of us since 4 PM yesterday. 😳

Ah yes, we also have this toy. At our house, it just lives in the middle of the floor all the time now and goes by the moniker of "Skirt Mousie."

Making our traditional Thanksgiving meal: spiced cranberry compote, turkey for spouse & Bearkitten, roasted brussels sprouts, the green bean casserole, & my grandpa's mashed potatoes which involve a whole container of French onion dip whipped in. Toasted pecan pie & port for dessert. And y'all 🙂?

Urgh, and most of the second batch too. I still should have enough. You just can't look away at all when you toast nuts in a skillet.

I've made the cranberry compote & am now working on the pecan pie. I have a recipe I love (from Sheila Lukins's USA Cookbook), but I toast the pecans first. Just burned the first batch, so it's a good thing I bought extra! Also, the pie has bourbon in it instead of vanilla extract.

No. It's donors. It's still obscene but it's not state money. What it does do, though, is reflect a higher ed environment in which university admins will ask donors for $54 million to pay off a coach but they'll never ask those same donors to fund the English or history or sociology departments
