๐ Streamflow Stripes are here!!! ๐
Just in time for #ShowYourStripes Day โ 21st June ๐
Our team at @ukceh.bsky.social has created UK river flow stripes to visualise how these have changed over time.

CANARI scientists from @ukceh.bsky.social have created UK river flow stripes.
High flows are rising in the north/west and drought risk growing in parts of the south/east. Adaptation is needed to reduce impacts from swings between wet/dry.

River flows likely to be below normal across most of UK, with potential for current low to exceptionally low flows persisting in some catchments.
Flows in western Scotland and Northern Ireland are likely to be in normal range.

We are already beginning 'Phase 2' of the #ROBINHydro dataset, aiming to include new countries and stations while updating existing data. If you would like to get involved please do get in touch!
01.05.2025 15:50 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0It was really a great pleasure to collaborate with over 60 people from around the globe to develop this dataset and paper, which we hope will significantly advance accessible global-scale hydrological data.
A huge, huge thank you to everyone that has been involved!
Maps showing Standardised Precipitation Index (SPI) over three months (January-March, left) and twelve months (February 2024-March 2025, right) for the UK
โ๏ธ The dry, warm weather in March and early April in much of the UK led to noticeably dry ground and river flows lower than usual - but recent rainfall has provided some relief.

Hydrological outlook map for April 2025
Amid the recent dry conditions across much of the UK, the latest Hydrological Outlook, published today, outlines projections for river flows, groundwater and rainfall for the next 3 months.

Bar chart with rainfall recorded at Wallingford Met Site each March in a series from 1962 to 2025
โ๏ธ It was the driest March at our Wallingford (Oxfordshire) Met Site in a record dating to 1962, our hydrologists have confirmed: Just 5.6 mm rainfall over the course of the month.
In fact it was the 15th driest of any month at the site.
