Storm Babet caused dangerous floods as the 'dry side' of Scotland isn't used to such torrential rain The storm came from an unusual direction and dumped exceptional amounts of rain along the east coast.

BHS member Dr Linda Speight has written for The Conversation on the impacts of Storm Babet, and the role of hydrology and hydrologists in keeping people and places safe from flooding.
