Digital Omnibus: When “Simplification” Becomes a Security Risk Under the banner of “simplification,” the European Commission plans to revise core pieces of digital protection: from data protection to cybersecurity and artificial intelligence. What sounds like cutting red tape could, in reality, erode Europe’s digital safeguards. Instead of clarity and strategic direction, fundamental rights, security, and trust risk being sacrificed to a misguided deregulatory logic.

I remember when the CSO/Big Tech gap was huge in 2014 when I started working on digital rights in Brussels. The gap is just exploding now. Thankfully, many CSOs started working on digital since then and there is a growing opposition to Big Tech domination and the de-regulatory agenda.

Looking forward to my first participation as a trainer in the EU Advocacy Academy organised by @euchanger.bsky.social , who have a long experience of providing successful workshops on EU advocacy.

I'll share my experience in a real case of an advocacy campaign I led with digital rights groups.

Finally, a breakthrough! Following a letter I initiated in February, @ec.europa.eu is backing the #Eurostack initiative to develop alternative European digital solutions.

Looking forward to seeing this turned into concrete action to break free from Trump and tech oligarchs.

Europe's Digital Future Demands Public Ownership And Worker Control European AI strategy must prioritise democratic governance over market solutions to protect citizens' data and workers' rights.

To use digital technologies and AI without feeding billionaires with public data and money, and for workers to have a say over their job, EU Apply AI strategy must include

- EU public digital infrastructures
- Artificial Intelligence at Work Act

New & emerging technologies must comply with intl human rights & humanitarian law. At #HRC60 the 🇪🇺 underlined that human judgment & accountability must always prevail - incl. in the military use of AI - to ensure responsible, rights-based innovation.

Discourses around digital sovereignty and public infrastructure often ignore workers' needs and the positive role of publicly and worker-owned infrastructure. If more unions join this call, there are chances to make a difference and create a more democratic digital public infrastructure.
