You don’t have to watch the doc but it enriched The Secret Agent for me. The doc has a scene where the director hears the neighbour’s dog barking, only the dog had died years prior. He finds the neighbours were watching one of his films which featured the dog, temporarily resurrected.

It’s part autobiography as it regards the former cinemas of his hometown and the remnants that remain today as well as covering his family home which features in many of his works. The timing is lucky, as some of those former cinema sites reappear in The Secret Agent (which is excellent).

MUBI has added a bunch of Kleber Mendonça Filho‘s earlier works to their service this weekend due to his new film The Secret Agent getting released. I‘d only previously seen Bacarau before but watched his documentary Pictures of Ghosts last night which is very good.

Walked in my local park for the first time this year and while the daffodils are blooming, a large and prominent tree in the park has fallen. It was home to a whole scurry of squirrels, but now broken in half and wrenched apart from its roots and quite unsavable.
