Also if you feel strongly about Eric Adams, you should call your city councilmember to express that and ask for their position.
You’d be surprised. Hochul’s stance is highly disappointing but it doesn’t come from nowhere. Press all your electeds. City elections are in 5 months. Ask candidates too.
One of my tools as a critic had been a Twitter list called, "Top Journalism Linkers." Designed so that I could survey the space. It was the first thing I read in the morning. When I left it had 6.8K users.
Over the weekend I rebuilt it for Bluesky. You can subscribe. bsky.app/profile/jayr...

I predict (#prediction): he and musk discredit the $ (w/ their dopey gold-seeking adventure) & push for a US ecoin. Then centralize it (making it more fiat than fiat) —and only then realize its only good in US. Er, something like that.
The great David Johansen of the NY DOLLS has been battling stage 4 cancer for the past few years, unable to work. This being America, he is having a hard times paying for medical care. A fundraiser has been set up through Sweet Relief; more info below. www.sweetrelief.org/davidjohanse...

Ya know. He’s not wrong. Why have we just accepted that a lot of our apps suck and nobody’s really talking about it. And while we’re at it, why do these companies get to collect our data and keep it forever to use however they want? Their data collection is helping the coup rn

The ongoing freeze was confirmed by an NIH official and internal correspondence reviewed by Popular Information.

09.02.2025 23:53 — 👍 129 🔁 82 💬 1 📌 4I would say that this policy represents a fundamental misunderstanding of the role of indirect cost, and supporting scientific research in this country. This is the funding that provides the infrastructure in which scientific research is done. Without it the whole enterprise collapses. This represents government’s commitment to the scientific research endeavor designed to promote health. Industry can’t pick up the slack. No one gets their PhD training at the University of Pfizer
The NIH move to cut funding for “indirects” landed a few hours ago and my phone hasn’t stopped buzzing with messages from researchers, scientific leaders and others warning of dire consequences for academia and the biomedical enterprise.
Here’s a txt from someone who personally funds some research:
A federal judge issued an emergency order early Saturday prohibiting Elon Musk’s U.S. DOGE Service from accessing personal and financial data on millions of Americans kept at the Treasury Department, noting the possibility for irreparable harm.

It is a national security catastrophe for the United States from which there is no assurance we will ever fully recover. Not hyperbole.
