A beautiful green and lush lawn, edged by yellow flowers with a Victorian fountain with multiple tiers happily bubbling away. The sky is a brilliant summer blue.
Beautiful day down at the Εamaru Public Gardens, one of Aotearoaβs five star rated public gardens.

Mr Douglas is a man in his eighties stood next to a beautiful array of native plants with an under construction water play area behind him. He is smiling and holding a red and white umbrella over his head because of course it is raining!
So last week we welcomed Mr Rob Douglas of the Εamaru Beautification Society. Theyβre sponsoring our native plants for the new Water Play Area. Mr Douglasβ grandfather also led the Society, and is responsible for Waitakiβs famous memorial oaks commemorating locals killed in WW1.

A gaggle of little blue penguin or korora coming up the beach to their nests.
Deal! The korora, or little blue penguin, lives along our coastline and we have a colony of them by the breakwater of our harbour. Thereβs a livestream too and if you catch it at sundown NZ time, you can watch them come up the rocks to their nests! m.youtube.com/watch?v=bl0z...

The Moeraki Boulders. The story is these are gourds thrown overboard from the sinking Δraiteuru, and they live on the beach between Kurinui and Moeraki. Ancient, beautiful spherical boulders little the sandy shore with the Moeraki peninsula behind it.
Harbour Street. The best preserved Victorian architecture and streetscape in the country. Narrow streets, high buildings of local whitestone, bunting strung across. The bakery on the corner is an absolute banger.
The clay cliffs by the Ahuriri river. An ancient wonder of erosion, five or six stories high. You can walk amongst them into the rivulets, showing millions of years of clay and sand.
The mighty Waitaki river, the tears of Aoraki. A braided river stretching from Lake Pukaki down the hydro dams that power the country to the vast Pacific ocean. An absolute stunner.
Ok, so when we say we live in Waitaki we mean we live here.
