We’re having the best time at the Georgia State Capitol this week! Today is Savannah-Chatham Day where our delegation advocates on behalf of our city, county, and surrounding community. Comment below to ask questions about the important work we’ve been doing.

Staying educated, questioning those in power, and building community are acts of resistance. Democracy requires participation and courage.

As Anne Frank wrote, “We can’t control our destiny, but we can control who we become.”

Discrimination is being normalized. Government sanctioned violence too often results in death. History teaches us this does not start all at once. It starts when people are silent and power goes unchecked.

We honor those who were killed and those who resisted.

Today, we are seeing the rise of authoritarianism here at home. Civil liberties are under threat.

More than 80 years ago, six million Jewish people and millions of other marginalized people were murdered during the Holocaust. Fascist regimes suppressed education, spread disinformation, and used state violence to dismantle democracy. Many of those tactics were informed by the Jim Crow South.

What happens with ICE is not just federal. It becomes local the moment state law allows it, assists it, or refuses to challenge it. Georgia is deciding right now what side of that line it will stand on. Call. Ask questions. Pay attention.

• SB 397 – Sponsored by Senator Josh McLaurin

Allows Georgians to bring civil action against federal officials who violate constitutional rights. This creates accountability when federal power crosses legal lines.

⬆️ This is about protecting sacred and essential spaces from fear-driven enforcement.

• SB 391 – Sponsored by Sen. Nabilah Parkes

Requires a judicial warrant before any state, local, or federal agency can conduct immigration enforcement at schools, college campuses, houses of worship, hospitals, public libraries, or family violence shelters.

• SB 390 – Sponsored by Sen. Harold Jones II

Would require permission from the Governor of Georgia before the National Guard can be stationed in our state, unless there is a valid presidential reason. This bill addresses who controls militarized presence inside Georgia.

Bills to watch and call your state legislators about:

• SB 389 – Sponsored by Sen. Kim Jackson

Requires visible identification and prohibits masks, with limited medical and safety exceptions. This raises serious concerns about surveillance, protest rights, and selective enforcement.

Georgia matters in this moment. While national headlines focus on ICE raids and federal overreach in MN, the Georgia General Assembly is currently in session & actively shaping how power is exercised here at 🏠 These bills determine whether GA becomes a guardrail against abuse or a pipeline for it.
