Slightly annoyed it’s taken me nearly 60 years to realise how fascinating arthropods are (esp. flies, bees, wasps, arachnids moths, beetles, bugs and, well, all types really). Fungi are amazing too. Carver, printmaker and occasional writer. OTBC!

I was going to write something witty but my brain’s melted so I’ll just stick with happy anniversary and we hope you’re having a great time!

A triangular-shaped moth with black eyes. Its wings are mainly straw-coloured with a thick light brown band at the bottom of them. A darker brown line is at the top of the band and another one goes from left to right across the middle of the straw- coloured part of the wing. There is a brown splodge above the middle of the band on each wing. Above each splodge is another mark that looks a bit like two hearts joined together along the side. A brown teardrop shaped line starts near the top of the wings and ends at the ‘heart’

Did some accidental mothing last night (door open, light on) when this little beauty turned up. I think it’s Evergestis limbata - dark-bordered pearl @norfolkmoths.bsky.social? Even if it isn’t, it’s nfm and nfg and I’m very chuffed #TeamMoth #NorfolkMoths

A painted lady butterfly with its wings closed sitting on a white flower on a bramble bush. It has its ‘tongue’ out as it is drinking nectar from the flower. The butterfly’s wings have mainly orange, black, white and olive green markings on them. While the butterfly is in full sun the background is in shadow which gives a nice contrast. The tips of the butterfly’s antennae seem to be glowing in the sunlight.

Thank you for writing this Clive. It puts into words what so many of us are thinking. The tragedy in Gaza is not about politics or religion. It’s about hatred and power wielded by a few individuals who are allowed to carry on their inhumane acts by world leaders too cowardly to stand up to them.

Forbids are such amazing birds - but that one looks like it’s wondering if you’re edible 😳

I managed to do that on our indoor geraniums a couple of years ago. Wound up with eight of them floating around the house 🙄

They are such lovely flowers. Understated but definitely worth a second look.

Thank you for the hint. I may have to give it a go next time I cull the nettles. Meanwhile, if you see a suspicious figure rooting through your compost bins at the allotment - it isn’t me!

Well done. I thought it must be fairly common too so I’ve been looking for it too since I heard about it a couple of weeks ago. I’m still searching. I think the nettles round here are fungus-proof!

An orangey-coloured newt with small black spots on its back and tail is clinging to the silver sill at the bottom of a light blue coloured door. It has small black dashes down the middle of its back and tail and its toes are spread out as it grips the door. It looks a bit surprised (much like I was)

I thought I was. I'll have to have a pudge round the cemetery in the next couple of days then. Are they still in the usual place?

Can anyone tell me what sort of slime mould this please? It started as a white crust on a buddleia log. The white blobs then turned into the lilac stalks and then the black crusts over a period of two days. I’m guessing this was the entire fruiting cycle. #slimemoulds #fungi

Today has been pretty rubbish because we a tarted clearing out my dad’s house today - something I’ve been putting off for months. On the plus side I saw three red kites on our way home from doing a tip run so that made the day a little better #birds #silverlinings

Our little online art shop is the only thing keeping us afloat in these testing times, so if you are looking for gifts or a treat for yourself it would be great if you'd consider a print.
Or a hit on the share button would be smashing. x

Just discovered the ‘Require ALT text before posting’ option in the Accessibility settings. I’ve now enabled it so hopefully that should make sure I remember to add ALT text to my images.

Thanks for reposting this. It’s helpful to be given pointers about what makes good ALT text too. As usual, once it’s been pointed out it’s obvious but a nudge in the right direction is useful. I do try to put in ALT text but usually forget - which is a bad habit I must get out of.

Thank you for producing this. It looks amazing and I’m going to enjoy browsing through it. It’s also handy to have it on my phone for reference when I’m out and about so I don’t have to rely on blurry record shots when I get home.
