Samus herself? Her name derives from a complete misunderstanding by Kiyotake. A soccer fan, he intended to name her after Pelé, whose real name—so he thought—was Samus Arantes Nascimentos. This was completely wrong: his real name was actually Edson Arantes do Nascimento. As Kiyotake put it, "I was totally off."
