For my parents, conflict is about winning at all costs. If they alienate others, it's their fault.

For me, conflict is an opportunity for closeness.

Being passive aggressive is my first instinct during conflict.

It comes from being hit if I openly communicated my feelings as a child, followed by years of guilt trips, so I developed indirect communication.

But these bring me further away from a desired outcome, not closer.

I'm learning to observe when I desire to be passive aggressive, and practicing not acting on it.

It gets a little bit easier each time.

I think people are misled into believing the opposite from movies, television, legacy news orgs, or HR DEI initiatives. All avenues answerable to people who relate more to the oppressors.
