The last time I was at DEF CON, I was in the talk with the NSA director where he got roasted following the Snowden disclosures of mass surveillance. It was just after the USG had gone from adversarial to hackers to seeing them as recruitment opportunities.

Anyways, there's always HOPE.

I just spent an evening helping my elderly parents with tech. One called me because he got locked out of Facebook. The other forgot her pin to use her tablet.

I honestly don't know how to change this. The permission structure for this long predates AI.

I threw away my draft sequel to Océane and Tristan, and am instead writing a story about a group of trans pals connecting at a diner at age 25, 30 and finally at 40.

It stuck out to me as the same format they did covering trans youth: do not give voice to those seeking to access care, advocate to deny them agency, and omit experts in favour of inflammatory and deceptive framing.

Not a book, but the documentary "Heightened Scrutiny" is the best primer at this time I can think of.

I feel like I'm always burnt out, and it's like oh yeah - all the things that used to insert work breaks have been eliminated, and I'm now expected to do 3x the output plus be on call. My income has gone up, but my rent tripled for the same size space, so its moot.

This. Trans rights were picked as the proxy issue by conservatives specifically because we were marginalised, including from politics and the media, and therefore they could control the narrative. This is something they had lost with their previous proxy, gay people. And liberals fell for it.

My friends and I have a thing where we each pick a bad book, annotate it in for each other, and pass it around.

This is a candidate now.

Also a mean income of $125k for cis people and $109k for trans folk? That's a big red flag for a sampling bias.

Also doubles as training for free diving.

Anyways this is why universities need to stop gatekeeping trans people and fund us to study us. Better use of resources.

I get a dark enjoyment out of reading really bad papers about trans people.

My dear cis, you're not one of the first to find out about SI incidence among trans vs cis ppl, and 52 trans ppl is not a notable sample size. Trans PULSE Canada had n=2,800+.
