Who says I have to structure it like a novel or a screenplay? The format can be anything I want; a chimera of the two.

13.08.2025 23:11 — 👍 26 🔁 19 💬 0 📌 4There's so much queer lit about being in your twenties. There's so little about being in your forties, without a partner or kid, at a draining but stable-ish job.
And it feels like I have no imagination to draw on; any path is mine to make up.
The tragic thing is that it comes from a place of needing validation, and the right that's love bombing him will dispose of him as soon as he's no longer filling the role of minority-willing-to-marginalize-own.
There's no end where Buck ends up receiving authentic warmth; only a facsimile of it.

The last time I was at DEF CON, I was in the talk with the NSA director where he got roasted following the Snowden disclosures of mass surveillance. It was just after the USG had gone from adversarial to hackers to seeing them as recruitment opportunities.
Anyways, there's always HOPE.
I just spent an evening helping my elderly parents with tech. One called me because he got locked out of Facebook. The other forgot her pin to use her tablet.
Half my calls to them are password related. Writing them down doesn't work. We need physical keys or something.
Ottawa Trans March is happening on August 22nd at 6pm! I'll see you there!!!

12.08.2025 21:33 — 👍 2 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0The problem is that the alternative is to spend money and time for a better experience. And while individuals want that, people as a whole always end up preferring the cheaper "good enough" (to them) alternative.
We're about to enter a new era of enshittification + downward pressure on wages.
It's also about how I fucking love diners and want to spend an entire story at one.

It's about joy, grieving change, and finding new life.
I threw away my draft sequel to Océane and Tristan, and am instead writing a story about a group of trans pals connecting at a diner at age 25, 30 and finally at 40.
12.08.2025 18:16 — 👍 4 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0It stuck out to me as the same format they did covering trans youth: do not give voice to those seeking to access care, advocate to deny them agency, and omit experts in favour of inflammatory and deceptive framing.
12.08.2025 16:58 — 👍 2 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0Not a book, but the documentary "Heightened Scrutiny" is the best primer at this time I can think of.
12.08.2025 14:09 — 👍 2 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0I feel like I'm always burnt out, and it's like oh yeah - all the things that used to insert work breaks have been eliminated, and I'm now expected to do 3x the output plus be on call. My income has gone up, but my rent tripled for the same size space, so its moot.

Every time I find myself reading the source material because a quote seems to be too out there to be true, it turns out that it was verbatim. FFS.

And another in the "riot cop fires chemical weapon at protester's head" genre. Rad Pride 2025.

Biked to downtown Ottawa to check out Elina's. Then I watched T-Blockers.
10.08.2025 23:15 — 👍 2 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0We could do everything right, message everything perfectly, and we still wouldn't have made any more headway because at the end of the day that power imbalance remains.
10.08.2025 17:25 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0This. Trans rights were picked as the proxy issue by conservatives specifically because we were marginalised, including from politics and the media, and therefore they could control the narrative. This is something they had lost with their previous proxy, gay people. And liberals fell for it.

My friends and I have a thing where we each pick a bad book, annotate it in for each other, and pass it around.
This is a candidate now.
Also a mean income of $125k for cis people and $109k for trans folk? That's a big red flag for a sampling bias.

My dear cis, you're not one of the first to find out about SI incidence among trans vs cis ppl, and 52 trans ppl is not a notable sample size. Trans PULSE Canada had n=2,800+.
