Jurjânîya - The cold of hell
We saw a land which made us think a gate to the cold of hell had opened before us. When snow falls, it is always accompanied by a rough and violent wind.

A COZY DWELLING - SO MANY COLORS #prehistovember2025
I joined two prompts together to imagine the appearance of an Iron Age hut. A hearth, herbs, warm blankets, things for weaving and a sleepy scruffy dog by your side are the epitome of coziness and what everybody needs to be happy in my opinion.

24.11.2025 11:07 — 👍 2 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0I can see at first glance it's difficult to see these shapes as human-like but it does make sense within the graphic context of Cantabrian Bronze Age. Many of these figures also "wear" a dagger by their side or at the front, a clue to what they represent.
24.11.2025 11:06 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0At the highest part of the trail you can find a Bronze Age treasure: two stone circles and several standing stones. The main stones are no longer standing but even laying on the ground broken and eroded they are a fascinating feature, especially the two depicting anthropomorfic idols.

MADE OF STONE #prehistovember2025
One of my favourite places to hike to is marked by many peculiar stones, both natural (although local legends state they were dropped by the devil himself when he went to build the Roman aqueduct in Soria -go figure) and man-carved.
Watercolor painting of a young Homo sapiens man embracing a neanderthal woman in a green woodland environment. Both are smiling.
NEW ACQUAINTANCES #prehistovember2025
Almost 40,000 years ago the first "modern humans" arrived in Europe and found it was already populated. Artifacts suggest there might have been an exchange of either material goods. Current genetics confirm sapiens and H. neanderthals exchanged more than tools 😏
LEAVING A PRINT #prehistovember2025
Did you know that 80,000 years ago a group of #neanderthals composed mainly by #children were walking on the beach at Le Rozel, in Normandy?

Jumping to a more recent prehistory to bring you a bit of #IronAge bling✨ This is a depiction of an #Iberian woman inspired by the Lady of Cerro de los Santos.

This illustration is based on the #paleodiet of my ancient fellow countrywoman, the Red Lady of El Mirón, which consisted of meat, different kinds of mushrooms and salmon. She would have also completed her meals with vegetables and fruits available at the time.

If something comes to mind when we think about the environment in which our early ancestors lived in, it is the great woolly #mammoth for sure.
¿Qué prejuicios tenemos sobre los Homo sapiens del Paleolítico?🤔
Dentro de nuestro programa “Altamira para escolares”, reflexionamos de forma crítica sobre las ilustraciones con las que transmitimos una imagen del pasado.

Who can join the #6thVCWAP?
Absolutely everyone!
The VCWAP aims to highlight the work of early-career women scientists and paleoartists.
These are the voices we want to put forward!
But that doesn’t mean others are not welcome: quite the opposite! 👉 We need everyone to make this event meaningful ⬇️
Had a great time last week talking about my workflow to create scientific reconstructions of prehistory along author Pedro Lima and researcher Verónica Fernández. I'm so looking forward to future collaborations with these wonderful people.
27.10.2025 09:47 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0You don't have to be an illustrator to join! In fact, most people that have taken on the previous challenges are history reenactors and crafters. If you're into archaeology and are looking for new ideas to simply create something in whatever media, you are welcome here 😊
22.10.2025 19:51 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0I'm hosting a little creative challenge for the third consecutive year and I'm bringing it here to Bluesky too. During the month of November I will be posting new illustrations for each prompt on all my social media. Please, feel free to join me!

Also I had my own replicas of #artifacts so people could touch and draw them from life. I think my first bell beaker doesn't even look bad.

Last week I taught at my first #archaeologydrawing workshop during the Tribus del Íber Fest in the north of Spain. ¡It was great!
So thankful for everyone who joined me and spent a beautiful evening drawing, chatting about artifacts and discussing the role of #artists in #archaeology.
